On February 20, diplomatic sources said the US refused to co-sponsor a draft resolution of the United Nations General Assembly (UN) that supports Kiev's territorial integrity and demands Russia withdraw its troops.

The draft resolution "calls for de-escalation of the conflict, early cessation of hostilities and peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine... in accordance with the UN Charter and international law," TASS news agency reported.
The document states a commitment "to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders," specifically demanding that Russia immediately withdraw all of its military forces, completely and unconditionally, from the territory of the internationally recognized Eastern European country.
According to a source, in previous years, the United States has repeatedly co-sponsored such resolutions in support of a just peace in Ukraine, noting that this resolution was supported by more than 50 countries.
By rule, multiple countries can co-sponsor a draft resolution until it is considered for a vote by the General Assembly. The reason for initiating the new resolution is the upcoming anniversary of the special military operation.
"Right now, the situation is that they (the US) will not sign," another source stressed, adding that the vote on the UN resolution "is seen as an important indicator of global support for Ukraine in the face of the Trump administration's change of stance on the conflict."
Of course, the vote could still go ahead without US backing, but “it is unlikely to win broad support in the General Assembly,” the source said.
Efforts are underway to seek support from other countries, including those in the southern hemisphere. However, a spokesperson for the US diplomatic mission in Geneva, Switzerland, did not respond to a request for comment.
