Foreign affairs is a key task
In recent times, the foreign affairs activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association have made many efforts to consolidate and strengthen solidarity and friendship, especially strengthening connections with embassies of other countries in Vietnam, receiving diplomatic visits from Ambassadors, aiming at the spirit of expanding press diplomacy between Vietnam and other countries.
In particular, the Central Committee of the Association successfully organized the International Journalism Conference “Management of digital press offices: Theory, practice, experience in the ASEAN region” leaving a good impression on international friends, journalists nationwide and press management agencies. The conference opened up close relations with partners that had been interrupted for many years such as: Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Philippines... and created favorable conditions for the Journalists Associations of provinces and cities of Hanoi, Lam Dong, Bac Giang, Yen Bai... to directly organize working delegations to visit and work with the local Journalists Association of Thailand.

The visits and working sessions of the ASEAN Journalists Association, the Korean Journalists Association, the Thai Journalists Association, the Thai Local Media Association with the Vietnam Journalists Association and some local Journalists Associations were hosted with respect, care, and safety, leaving a good impression on the working delegations. Some provincial Journalists Associations sent members to visit and exchange professional knowledge with the Journalists Associations of China, Korea, Thailand, etc. Thereby contributing to promoting cooperation in the field of journalism with important partner countries; on the other hand, creating favorable conditions to bring information and images of the country and people of Vietnam as well as foreign policies of the Party, State, and Government in a more proactive and effective manner.
Identifying foreign affairs activities as one of the key tasks in 2024, since the beginning of the year, the Vietnam Journalists Association has continuously welcomed delegations from the Korean Journalists Association, the Indonesian Journalists Association, and the Cambodian Journalists Club - demonstrating the excitement of foreign affairs activities. Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association - Nguyen Duc Loi commented: “The role of the press is very important in strengthening relations between countries and peoples. The recent visits are an opportunity to discuss solutions and methods to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the Vietnamese press and other countries. Increasing information about each other's situations will help the public better understand the countries, thereby contributing to increasing mutual interest and understanding between the people of the countries”.
With the attention of the Vietnam Journalists Association and provincial leaders, in recent years, the Quang Ninh Journalists Association and press agencies in the province have carried out foreign affairs and cooperation activities in the field of journalism and media.
Mr. Do Ngoc Ha - Permanent Vice President of Quang Ninh Journalists Association said that during these days, Quang Ninh Journalists Association has discussed, exchanged and cooperated with the Thai Local Media Association to exchange journalism experiences and contribute to spreading the image of Quang Ninh and Vietnam. Quang Ninh Newspaper and Quang Ninh Radio and Television Station in the past, now Quang Ninh Media Center, have also had many exchange activities, sent reporters to practice abroad and cooperated in producing programs with press agencies in Korea, China, Germany, etc.
“Through such visits, the Quang Ninh Journalists Association has the opportunity to exchange and learn a lot of experiences. Through these visits, the Quang Ninh Journalists Association proactively has specific programs to enhance exchanges and cooperation in various fields of journalism. On this occasion, the Quang Ninh Journalists Association wishes to strengthen cooperation with press organizations in many other regions to affirm the position of the Vietnam Journalists Association as well as create conditions for local Journalists Associations to learn and exchange experiences with press organizations in regions around the world,” said Mr. Do Ngoc Ha.

Connect to keep up with regional and world press
Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi said that the improvement in foreign affairs activities shows the efforts of the Vietnam Journalists Association in raising the position of the Association in the region. Promoting that spirit, in the coming time, the Vietnam Journalists Association will step up foreign affairs activities, enhancing the Association's reputation in the international arena, especially in the ASEAN Community.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi, the press is currently competing with new media, especially social networks; the issue of press economics... Media revenue "flows" into social networks, these are new challenges for the press not only in Vietnam but also in many countries around the world. Besides, the way the public accesses information has changed a lot, unlike the traditional way, the public wants to access information quickly, conveniently, and concisely. And in many of these new challenges, cooperation between press agencies both at home and abroad is needed...
“The Association will continue to actively and effectively participate in the action program of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ), expand bilateral relations with member press organizations of the Confederation; continue to consolidate and deepen relations with strategic partners such as China, Thailand, South Korea, Cuba…” - Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi affirmed.

In the non-ASEAN region, in previous periods, the Vietnam Journalists Association has cooperated and linked with many press organizations outside the region and according to Permanent Vice President Nguyen Duc Loi, this will continue to be promoted in the coming time. Reconnecting to continue supporting members and journalists in improving their skills and keeping up with world trends is a necessary task.
Hot issues of global journalism will certainly continue to be the stories discussed a lot among journalists in the region such as: The fight against fake news, the role of official news sources, innovation to gain dominance in cyberspace; refuting false information, promoting the application of technology and artificial intelligence in information production and distribution, etc.
According to the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, we have every prospect to further improve our role as a responsible connecting unit. “I think that, in the context of many current challenges, the issue of uniting to form a community of strength is very important. Correctly assessing the context, looking directly at hot issues to find solutions is the way to elevate the position of press organizations and associations in the region that we continue to aim for. Of course, we also need more diverse and rich implementation methods, not just stopping at the form of seminars and talks…” - Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi expressed.
