As Thanh Nien reported, this morning, June 29, at the northern bank of the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Monument, Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, Thanh Nien Newspaper organized the inaugural Cycling for Peace, opening a series of events for the first time, the Peace Festival, held on a national and international scale in the sacred land of Quang Tri.
All the racers, delegates, and cycling enthusiasts attended the parade. After saluting the flag at the Hien Luong border flagpole, the parade marched 42 km along the route: starting from the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Monument, crossing Hien Luong Bridge to Trung Son intersection (Gio Linh District), turning onto Provincial Road 76 and continuing to the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, then ending at Fidel Park (Dong Ha City).
The highlight of the journey at Fidel Park was the signing of the festival flag with the message "Join hands to build a peaceful world" and the awarding of commemorative medals to the athletes.
The flag is 54 square meters wide, representing the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam. The main motifs are doves holding rice ears (representing the desire for peace, prosperity and happiness) along with multi-colored silk ribbons: red and yellow (symbolizing the national flag), red is also the color of the blood of the heroes and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for peace today, green is the color of peace, of life reviving and developing.
All of these create the image of Quang Tri, "the land of steel blooming with flowers of peace", a destination of gratitude and honoring the value of peace, a gathering place for domestic and international friends and tourists to "join hands to build a peaceful world".
This flag will be sent to the National Commission for UNESCO, as a message from peace lovers.
Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Festival for Peace, signed the first flag of the 2024 Festival for Peace. Next was Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, and delegates, sponsors and 600 athletes.
The event ended with the shouts of hundreds of people: "Join hands to build a peaceful world! Quang Tri for peace! World peace!".
