Over the years, Kon Tum province has attracted millions of visitors to visit, experience, and relax, gradually turning tourism into a key economic sector, contributing to increasing income and improving people's lives.
Promoting cultural values into distinct tourism products
Recently, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le in Tan Uyen City, Binh Duong Province chose Kon Tum Province to visit and experience culturally rich tourism products with her family. According to Ms. Le, her family has traveled to many places but the experiences in Kon Tum Province were very impressive and different, especially in community tourism villages, such as: Kon Pring (Mang Den town, Kon Plong district); Dak Rang (Dak Duc commune, Ngoc Hoi district); Tu Tho (Te Xang commune, Tu Mo Rong district)...

“My family got to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom, dyeing the roads and houses red, take a walk under the pine forests in Mang Den, rest in homestays with fresh air; experience brocade weaving activities using traditional looms, participate in the process of making jar wine, try our hand at traditional weaving, participate in cultural exchange activities of gongs, xoang dance, participate in processing and enjoy traditional dishes of the local people such as grilled chicken, bamboo rice, leaf salad, grilled pork skewers... Everything was wonderful and I will come back when I have the chance”, Ms. Le shared.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, from Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province, said that he comes to Mang Den at least twice a year and never misses the time when the cherry blossoms bloom during the Lunar New Year. According to Mr. Thanh, he and many people like to come to Mang Den because not only is this place blessed with many beautiful landscapes and a mild, cool climate all year round, but the local Party Committee and government have many good ways to promote cultural identity and build unique, different tourism products.
Kon Tum has great potential for tourism development with many beautiful landscapes, unique culture and the provincial government has recognized 13 tourist attractions and 1 provincial-level tourist area. In particular, Mang Den Eco-tourism Area has been approved by the Prime Minister for its master plan with unique natural and cultural landscapes and rich identity. Thanks to that, the number of tourists to Kon Tum is constantly increasing. In 2024, the total number of visitors is estimated at 2.3 million, with the number of international visitors increasing to 8,500. In 2025, Kon Tum province is expected to welcome more than 3 million visitors, including about 25,000 international visitors, with estimated revenue of about 750 billion VND.
Efforts to make tourism a key economic sector
Based on research, survey, summary of practices and thoroughly grasping the spirit of Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW dated January 16, 2017 of the Politburo "On developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector", on May 18, 2022, the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 12-NQ/TU "On developing tourism in Kon Tum province to 2025, with a vision to 2030"; implementing many stimulus mechanisms and policies, creating momentum for the tourism industry to develop sustainably and gradually become a spearhead economic sector.
Kon Tum province aims to develop tourism into a professional, unique, and increasingly competitive service industry nationwide, connecting and promoting other industries and sectors to develop together, making important contributions to the province's socio-economic development. By 2030, there will be at least 9 to 10 hotels and resorts meeting 4 to 5 star standards. Building and recognizing provincial-level tourist areas, eco-tourism areas, and resorts combined with sports; striving to basically complete the criteria for recognizing Mang Den National Eco-tourism Area as meeting national tourist area standards; welcoming more than 3.5 million tourists annually; the proportion of added value of tourism service industries accounts for about 15% of the province's gross regional domestic product (GRDP).
In fact, after a short time, Tu Tho was recognized as a community tourism village and the District Party Committee and People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district had many policies and solutions to help people do tourism such as: Guiding and supporting people to build accommodation; sending people to attend training courses, serving tourism; establishing gong and culinary teams to serve guests; renovating flower gardens, village grounds, planting trees to create landscapes... then the number of tourists to Tu Tho has continuously increased, the income and life of the people have been increasingly improved.
Comrade A Bu, Head of Tu Tho village, excitedly said: “Tu Tho is a resettlement village with many difficulties, but thanks to the policies and economic development projects based on the "3 pillars" of agriculture, medicinal herbs and tourism, people's lives have gradually stabilized and improved. If before 2019, the poverty rate was up to 49.64%, now it is only 18.9% and this number will continue to decrease in the coming time; 100% of Tu Tho households have solid houses, many houses are built spacious and modern. The Xo Dang people in Tu Tho are excited and confident that their village will "take off" thanks to community tourism."
