Joy from exported agricultural products

In the last days of 2024, good news came to Tuyen Quang farmers when 7 OCOP products of the province were exported to the UK. This is considered the first step to pave the way for the province's agricultural products to appear in the European market - a demanding market with strict regulations on plant quarantine, quality management, food hygiene and safety, and traceability.

Of the 7 export products, Binh Minh Organic Agricultural Cooperative has 2 exported products including guava tea and male papaya flowers soaked in honey. According to Mr. Tran Viet Coi, representative of Binh Minh Organic Agricultural Cooperative: Thanks to the organic farming orientation since its establishment, the products of Binh Minh Organic Agricultural Cooperative, Tu Quan Commune (Yen Son) have affirmed their quality and have a foothold in the market. The products are currently favored by many customers in and outside the province. All products of the Cooperative are made from clean materials.

Comrade Phung Tien Quan, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Internal Affairs Committee, Head of the Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee visited the OCOP export booth of Yen Son district.

Clean production is also what the people of Soi Ha, Xuan Van commune (Yen Son) pursue when grapefruit trees began to be widely grown in many localities and were chosen as the main crop of Yen Son district. Mr. Do Khac Khoat's family is one of 13 households in Soi Ha village, Xuan Van commune participating in taking care of grapefruit gardens according to technical standards to serve the goal of exporting to Europe.

Mr. Khoat said that for many years now, his family's Soi Ha specialty grapefruit garden has generated an average annual income of about 300 million VND, although the consumption market is only domestic. The fact that Xuan Van grapefruit is exported to Europe makes him very excited. His family has focused resources on taking care of the grapefruit to ensure the technical process prescribed by the enterprise. He hopes that when his hometown's grapefruit is exported to Europe, it will not only enhance the brand of Tuyen Quang's agricultural products but also help people like him increase their income.

Do the hard work… slowly

The organic rice growing model in Minh Thanh (Son Duong) is currently the only certified organic rice model in the province.

To produce organically, Mr. Ma Van Nhat, Director of Minh Thanh Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, and other members of the Cooperative built a solid embankment to isolate and prevent fertilizers from neighboring fields from flowing into the water. Fields that have used chemical fertilizers for many years must be treated with organic microbial fertilizers for four consecutive crops. During the transition period, the Cooperative almost did not produce anything but let the land rest and regenerate.

The success of the organic rice growing model in Minh Thanh is the first step in creating a clean agricultural production model with clean, quality and standard products.

Without chemical fertilizers, the 5% of rice fields that Minh Thanh Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative subcontracts are increasingly rich in nutrients, the fields of surrounding households have almost no microorganisms, but the fields of the Cooperative have more and more beneficial microorganisms. The quality of organic rice products is more delicious, the rice is sweeter and stickier. The important thing is that through the model, it has helped farmers create safer products, during the process of implementing the model from planting, caring to harvesting, farmers always feel secure, not afraid of toxicity when caring for rice. Director of Minh Thanh Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative Ma Xuan Nhat affirmed: The model has increased the area from 3 hectares to 5 hectares, thanks to the response and following of surrounding households.

Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong (right), in village 11, Kim Phu commune (Tuyen Quang city) applies automatic technology to reduce labor in production.

Currently, the trend of organic rice cultivation has begun to spread to localities. Mr. Quan Van Phung, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Binh district, said: The district has also formed an organic rice cultivation model in some localities such as Lang Can, Khuon Ha, Hong Quang... with an area of about 6.2 hectares. This locality is continuing to expand and move towards supporting certified household groups to conquer the market.

Inevitable trend

Up to now, many organic agricultural products of the province have established a foothold in the market and created high competitiveness. Such as the organic grapefruit model in Phuc Ninh commune (Yen Son) with an area of over 57 hectares; the Shan Tuyet Hong Thai organic tea model of Son Tra Cooperative (Na Hang) received the Silver Cup "Organic products for community health", entered the top 50 famous brands and trademarks in Asia - Pacific and was honored as "Golden Brand of Vietnamese agriculture"; the Ham Yen organic orange production model with a scale of 33 hectares; the organic grapefruit model in Binh Xa commune (Ham Yen) with a scale of 9.9 hectares; the 6.2-hectare organic rice growing model in Lam Binh district... The value of organic products is 2 to 3 times higher than that of conventional products, has a stable consumption market and is trusted by consumers.

To build circular production chains, Tuyen Quang is also focusing on propaganda to familiarize farmers with the concept of “the output of one industry is the input of another”. Training courses on composting organic fertilizers, making biological products, etc., which have been focused on by units during this period, have created a revolution in agricultural production, after many years of dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Along with the planning of specialized areas, the right steps from clean production have created momentum for Tuyen Quang agriculture to reap joy in 2024. And hopefully, in 2025, with this premise, there will be more clean agricultural products from Tuyen Quang conquering more demanding markets, to bring higher value to farmers.
