The 5-star beachfront hotel segment of international chains recorded a room occupancy rate of about 50%. Domestic 4-5 star beachfront hotels reached an average of 70%. Some small-scale hotels with less than 150 rooms were fully booked. In the city center, the recorded occupancy rate was about 10% lower than beachfront establishments, showing that tourists still prioritize staying by the beach. The number of visitors to Da Nang during this holiday is mainly individual guests, including both domestic and international guests. This promises to be an impressive "start" of the summer tourist season for this coastal city.

Need to reduce airfares to stimulate tourism during peak seasons

The 5-day April 30 - May 1 holiday this year is an opportunity for people across the country to travel, return to their hometowns or relax. However, airfares during this period continue to be high, even though the holiday is only 2 weeks away, causing many obstacles for people who need to travel.

Flights from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to popular tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Hue... still have high prices, especially during the best times from April 26 to 29. Round-trip ticket prices for the journey from Hanoi to Phu Quoc, Nha Trang or Da Nang range from 2 - 5 million VND/person/trip, depending on the airline and time of booking.

In addition, the heat from the series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) taking place in Ho Chi Minh City is creating excitement and attraction for this destination. Not only are the accommodation areas packed with tourists booking early, but the number of airline tickets sold is also increasing rapidly every day. Even though the airfare to Ho Chi Minh City during this holiday is quite high, tourists are still willing to pay.

According to a reporter from the Vietnam Law Newspaper, through a number of online air ticket booking platforms, flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City during the April 30 holiday are increasing day by day. On the BestPrice website (a reputable travel website), round-trip ticket prices of some low-cost airlines such as Vietjet and Bamboo Airways are around 6 - 8 million VND. Meanwhile, at the beginning of April, round-trip ticket prices for the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City flight during the holiday were around 3 - 6 million VND.

On this route, if flying at good times, the ticket price can be up to 3 - 7 million VND/route (about 6 to 15 million VND for a round-trip ticket) being sold by Vietjet, Vietravel Airlines, Bamboo Airways - equal to the price during Lunar New Year.

In fact, domestic airfares are quite high compared to the international market. Many tourists with average incomes will hesitate and think twice before choosing tours to domestic tourist destinations. At the same time, travel companies must adjust tour prices to match the cost of airfares.

Therefore, to stimulate tourism during major celebrations in Vietnam such as April 30 - May 1 or September 2, there needs to be preferential policies and support for domestic airfares. With prices that are reasonable and suitable for people's income, it promises to stimulate both international and domestic tours in the near future.
