When farmers master science and technology

Visiting the farm of Mr. Phan Hong Dien, Dan Thuong village, Tan Phu commune (Vinh Tuong), we were impressed by the scale of the barn, which is both spacious and fully equipped with modern equipment. With the desire to get rich on the land of his homeland, with the support of the local government and the support of the Commune Farmers' Association, Mr. Dien has consolidated his land and built a closed industrial pig farm.

Mr. Dien said: Taking advantage of science and technology, I installed new equipment such as fans, air conditioners, heating lamps, biogas tanks and automatic feeding and drinking systems in pig farming.

For the water surface area, I use a sensor system for intensive freshwater fish farming, which helps to detect dissolved oxygen, water pH, water temperature in the pond and use an aeration system and fan to adjust the water environment and temperature appropriately.

Thanks to modern technology and machinery, raising livestock and aquaculture does not require much effort or cost. All activities on the farm and parameters are transferred to computers and phones via the internet connection, helping me monitor, grasp the situation and be able to operate remotely.

In the field of cultivation, many farmer members actively apply scientific and technological advances in production to improve productivity and product quality. A typical example is Ms. Van Thi Yen, Tu Trung town (Vinh Tuong) who grows melons and Japanese cucumbers using crop rotation and intercropping methods.

Ms. Yen said: From 2021 to now, I have invested in 6,000m2 of net houses and greenhouses to grow cucumbers, cantaloupes, and grapes using the crop rotation method. In April 2024, with support in varieties and techniques, I tested growing Cam Ngoc melons using a drip irrigation system on an area of ​​1,000m2, bringing high efficiency, increased productivity, and overcoming crop failures due to pests and weather.

Drip irrigation system not only saves water but also controls the amount of organic fertilizer, controls weeds, helps plants grow strong, well, saves time, effort and creates high-value products all year round, meeting consumer tastes.

Currently, the province has over 155,000 farmer members. Over the years, in order to help members improve the efficiency of production and business activities, the Provincial Farmers' Association has regularly promoted, encouraged and motivated members and farmers to innovate their thinking, apply science and technology to production; and maximize the potential and strengths of capital, labor and land.

The Association coordinates with relevant sectors, especially the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Science and Technology to organize training courses and transfer scientific and technological advances in cultivation and animal husbandry to officials, members and farmers; build many agricultural production models applying scientific and technological advances to bring high efficiency.

From 2024 to present, farmers' associations at all levels in the province have coordinated with agencies and units to organize training, transfer of science and technology, vocational training and development for more than 1,000 members and rural workers.

Along with that, consulting and supporting farmers with capital, agricultural materials, science and technology; supporting the establishment of 13 new agricultural development cooperatives; supporting the construction of 31 agricultural production demonstration models applying scientific and technological advances; supporting the construction and development of 24 cooperation and linkage models according to the value chain; supporting the construction of 80 OCOP products certified with 3 stars or higher.

Farmers' Associations at all levels mobilize good production and business households to build and develop models according to the province's orientation on developing green, clean, safe, sustainable agriculture, applying high technology.

Guide to building agricultural production practice models in the direction of VietGAP, organic agriculture, chain production; linking agricultural production and business with rural tourism; linking with enterprises to develop raw material areas associated with processing, building product brands.

Up to now, in the province, there are many models of farmers' association members successfully applying science and technology to production, bringing high economic efficiency such as: Animal husbandry in the direction of biological safety, application of microbiological products to treat livestock waste, application of drip irrigation technology for plants in greenhouses and membrane houses; use of sensors in freshwater fish farming; application of automation technology in industrial pig farming, etc.

The results achieved in applying science and technology to production have created more motivation for farmers' associations at all levels in the province to continue to propagate and mobilize members to apply scientific advances in production.

Thereby, helping to increase productivity and product quality; save costs and labor days, help increase value and income for farmers, promote sustainable agricultural development.
