Lively history lessons
These days, at Pham Cong Binh Primary School (Yen Lac), teachers have increasingly used equipment to show historical revolutionary documentary footage. It is the image of a Liberation Army tank passing through the iron gate, capturing the Saigon puppet Presidential Palace, the last stronghold of the enemy, gloriously ending the nation's 30-year long march against foreign invaders.
The students sat and watched with rapt attention, their eyes shining with pride, mixed with the lively sound of the documentary film. The lively, easy-to-understand history lesson helped the students relive the heroic revolutionary atmosphere, contributing to arousing national pride and promoting patriotism.
In recent years, Pham Cong Binh Primary School has actively applied IT in teaching and achieved many important results, including history. Instead of dry lectures in textbooks, students have been exposed to vivid images and videos on the topic of revolutionary war. Thereby, helping to convey inspiration and love for history to students and making lessons more attractive.
The images and sounds of the historical films were truly captivating, keeping the whole class focused on watching. The images of Uncle Ho, simple and close to his people; the images of General Vo Nguyen Giap commanding the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954 and the Ho Chi Minh campaign in 1975… appeared on the screen one after another, helping the students understand more about the great people who had made great contributions to the fight for national independence and freedom.
Teacher Tran Thi Dung, class 3A2 teacher, Pham Cong Binh Primary School said: “I find the application of digital technology in the teaching process very practical. I have used AI technology to apply in history lessons, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day. Many images and documentary films that I have collected and shown help students better understand the meaning of Southern Liberation Day and the heroic tradition of the Vietnam People's Army.”
Improve the quality of lectures
Compared to before applying IT to teaching, teachers at Pham Cong Binh Primary School added: "History has too much information and milestones, so it is very difficult for students to learn and remember. Although teachers have tried to innovate teaching methods, the content of the lectures is not attractive. However, after applying IT, increasing the use of projectors helps students to easily remember historical milestones, thereby improving the quality of teaching."
Pham Hong Thanh, a student of class 5A2 at Pham Cong Binh Primary School, said: “I really love history, especially the lessons that show documentaries about Uncle Ho and General Vo Nguyen Giap. Through the vivid visual lessons, I better understand the brave struggles and sacrifices of generations of fathers and grandfathers to gain independence and freedom for the nation. I am very grateful for the contributions and sacrifices of the heroic martyrs and promise to be good and study well to continue to contribute to society in the future.”
According to Vice Principal of Pham Cong Binh Primary School, since the beginning of April, the school's Board of Directors has given directions and requirements to teachers, including the application of IT in teaching.
Instruct subject teachers to increase the collection of images and videos related to April 30 to convey to students in history classes to educate them about revolutionary traditions and patriotism. The school's strength is its young teaching staff, so the application of IT in basic teaching is convenient and highly effective.
Implementing digital transformation, in recent times, the provincial education sector has increased the application of IT in teaching. Based on digital platforms, staff and teachers have improved teaching methods, created new experiences for students, and actively completed the shared database of the whole sector.
Many teachers have had practical initiatives and experiences to apply IT in teaching. Specifically, applying AI technology, online software... to develop capacity, increase interest in learning, build a library of learning materials to improve the quality of the subject.
In particular, the application of IT in history lessons is an innovative teaching method, contributing to improving the quality of revolutionary tradition training for students, helping the younger generation gain a deeper understanding of history.
Thereby arousing national pride, promoting the spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, self-improvement, and national pride in the era of integration and development, firmly entering a new era - the era of national growth.
In the coming time, the education sector will continue to raise awareness and skills on digital transformation for staff, teachers and students; promote the application of IT and digital transformation in teaching, learning and assessment. At the same time, implement conditions to ensure technical infrastructure, pay attention to investing in facilities and equipment for IT applications for schools.
