Strong desire, great expectation

What did we see tonight?

Flags flying, hundreds of flags flying

The streets are brightly lit today

Bright lights in the village

People go like water over the dike

The worried earth has opened its smile

Green trees change their clothes

The man walked as fast as the forest to...

It was a song that was born right in the middle of Saigon, when the war to unify the country had not yet ended. The song expressed the strong desire for peace of the Vietnamese people, and became one of the immortal songs of the genius musician Trinh Cong Son.

There is a nation that has gone through so many wars, has felt so much pain and death, has gritted its teeth to survive, has silently prepared to burst out "People walk as fast as the forest to welcome the first day of peace", even when peace has not really existed in the whole country. That is the Vietnamese nation. And that is the aspiration of many generations of Vietnamese people, even though "Blood and bones are broken, hatred is soaring" ( Liberation of the South , Luu Huu Phuoc) they are still determined to gain Independence, Freedom and Peace. That aspiration has permeated the blood of every Vietnamese person, and every Vietnamese person understands the price to pay to have that priceless peace.

A banner celebrating the 78th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 is placed in front of the Vietnam Military History Museum (Dien Bien Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi).

48 years have passed since April 30, 1975, the day the face of peace lit up the streets of Saigon, Hanoi, Hue and all over the country... That was the day of victory for Peace, after 21 years of war and division of the country. That day, at Saigon Radio, musician Trinh Cong Son picked up his guitar and sang the song "Joining Hands in a Big Circle". That was the arms full of longing and love of the entire Vietnamese people welcoming the first day of peace, the day the country was unified, the day the Ben Hai River no longer separated the two regions of the South and the North.

Thirty years after September 2, 1945, the day President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, our country was truly peaceful and unified. Although there were many hardships and sacrifices to maintain independence and peace, that invaluable asset of Vietnam can never be lost.

Exactly 10 years ago, in July 2013, I visited the Vi Xuyen National Martyrs Cemetery (Ha Giang) for the third time, where 1,870 martyrs from 30 provinces and cities across the country fought and sacrificed on this Vi Xuyen land in 1984, in fierce battles against the invaders from the North. Burning incense on the graves of many martyrs who were only 18 or 20 years old, I shed tears. The price we Vietnamese people have to pay for peace is truly immeasurable.

Therefore, we are determined not to lose peace, because it belongs to the human right to live and the right to pursue happiness. Of course, to keep peace is to never lose independence, never to return to slavery, whether it is old-style slavery or new-style slavery.

Independence and Peace, to our people, are two eternal values.

But now, when our country is developing strongly and making sincere friends with the whole world, Vietnam's aspirations are rising higher with great expectations for a powerful country and a prosperous Vietnam.

A strong and prosperous Vietnam is not only the expectation of a civilized, rich, economically prosperous country, but also a country rich in cultural identity, modern, affectionate, happy, with an increasingly important and active role in the international arena. Only when strong and prosperous can Vietnam protect peace, maintain independence, and truly become a sincere and strong friend to the whole world.

At the 13th National Party Congress, for the first time, our Party raised the issue of arousing and promoting the aspiration to build a rich and strong country, realizing the goal of a strong and prosperous Vietnam with specific milestones: 100 years of the Party's founding (2030), 100 years of the country's founding (2045).

There are specific milestones to strive for, but there must be specific plans, specific solid steps to turn the two phrases that make the whole nation proud, Strong and Prosperous, two phrases that will definitely join the two phrases Independence and Peace to form a chain: Vietnam - Independence - Peace - Strong - Prosperous. Yes, to reach the final destination of Freedom and Happiness for the whole nation, for every Vietnamese person no matter where they live. We strive so that the Vietnamese people can have freedom and happiness, have a life that is not only prosperous but also cultured, not only radiates prosperity but also radiates civilization.

To have a cultured nation, a civilized country, a community that knows how to live with affection, knows how to share and love, knows the noble value of humanity, is a long-term, fundamental and thorough journey of struggle. Vietnam is and will strive in that direction. Strength is to protect the Fatherland, prosperity is for the people, then humanity is for each inner quality of human beings.

Please take the year 2045 as the milestone, 22 years from the current year 2023, to strive to fulfill the wishes of Uncle Ho, of many heroic martyrs who sacrificed, of many generations of Vietnamese people who have been and are striving. A milestone with a time gap that is not too long, but not too short.

Calm, confident, and ambitious.

That is our way of life today, towards a bright tomorrow for the country.
