In the 1960s, when photography was still expensive, sketching was a popular way to record current events on the battlefield. Therefore, from North to South, many young people participated in the “Resistance Art” course and equipped themselves with soldier-like skills to be able to work on the fiercest fronts.
The paintings of the late artist Pham Thanh Tam were created in that context, when on one side was the roar of planes, on the other side was the sound of bombs exploding.

From 1954 to the 1960s and 1970s, artist Pham Thanh Tam diligently sketched right on the battlefield, in the trenches to record the daily life and fighting of Dien Bien Phu soldiers and people in the fiery lands of Vinh Linh, Quang Binh, and Ha Tinh.
More than half a century later, artist Dinh Quang Hai also started his project Ve - Di - Tre in the places where the late artist Pham Thanh Tam had passed through, in order to record his feelings about the landscape and lifestyle of the people in the regions through the eyes of his contemporaries. He still chose the "slow recording" method, using paper and watercolors, even though photography was a popular and instantaneous medium.

Within the framework of the 2024 Festival for Peace Program, the painting series "Revival" is like a duet telling the story of the transformation of the land that was once a land of fire. "Revival" is like an extension of the past and present, vividly described through 130 paintings by the late painter Pham Thanh Tam and painter Dinh Quang Hai with themes such as: tunnel - sky; people; daily life; traffic; rest; landscape. The paintings record Quang Tri in a time of bombs and bullets, the people who were present in that fierce moment, now all reappear through the works at the exhibition.
The exhibition is not intended to awaken painful memories of a time of bombs and bullets, but to look back honestly at what happened in the past, to see how the place that was once a "land of fire" has revived after so many years.
This is also an opportunity for the younger generation to better understand the lives of people during wartime, to have a sympathetic view and be grateful for the enormous sacrifices of previous generations who laid down their lives for a peaceful Quang Tri today.
It is also a place to introduce to visitors a better understanding of the history as well as the resilience and determination of the people of Quang Tri in particular and the Vietnamese people in general, thereby understanding the meaning of efforts to maintain peace and friendship between countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation Hoang Duc Thang shared that Quang Tri is a land rich in historical and cultural traditions, but contains within itself the heroic and fierce war of national liberation and reunification more than 50 years ago. And today, Quang Tri has been rising strongly, reviving from that pain, loss, and great sacrifice to develop with strong aspirations.
The painting exhibition “Revival” is the embodiment of those noble meanings, a place where unique works of art, created and created by talented and dedicated artists, converge.

Each painting is a story, a perspective on the process of the country's and people's recovery after the war, a message of faith, hope and desire for peace. These works not only reflect reality but also evoke emotions, thoughts and aspirations for a better future.
Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation Hoang Duc Thang sent his sincere thanks to the artists and highly appreciated the agencies, organizations and units that have sponsored and supported the success of this meaningful exhibition, contributing to the overall success of the Festival for Peace.
The "Resurrection" painting exhibition runs until July 11, 2024.
