Kane on the way to breaking Messi's super record

Germany If he maintains his current performance, Harry Kane could break Lionel Messi's record of scoring 50 goals in a domestic season.

On the evening of November 11, in Bayern's 4-2 win over Heidenheim, Kane scored a brace. The English striker set a record of scoring 17 goals in the first 11 Bundesliga matches. According to the league's website, Kane scores a goal every 57 minutes on average. If he maintains his performance until the end of the season, he will have 53 goals. If he does that, Kane will surpass Lionel Messi's super record in the top five European national championships - scoring 50 goals in La Liga 2011-2012.

Kane is also on track to break the record of 41 goals in a Bundesliga season. Robert Lewandowski holds the record when he set it with Bayern in the 2020-2021 season. Previously, Gerd Muller set the old record of 40 goals in the 1971-1972 season. However, in the 5-2 win over Augsburg at the end of the 2020-2021 season, Lewandowski scored his 41st goal in the 90th minute.

In the 2021-2022 season, Lewandowski scored 35 goals in the Bundesliga. Even Erling Haaland could not approach the Polish striker's numbers. In two full seasons playing for Dortmund, the Norwegian striker only had 27 and 22 goals in the German top flight.

As well as challenging Lewandowski's record, Kane has also scored three hat-tricks in his first 11 Bundesliga games, matching Christian Muller's feat over the same period in the 1964-65 season. Kane is also the first player to score hat-tricks in consecutive Bundesliga games since Mario Gomez, another former Bayern striker, in 2011.

Kane currently leads the race for the 2023-24 Bundesliga Golden Boot with 17 goals, two ahead of Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy. Last season, with just 16 goals, Niclas Fullkrug and Christopher Nkunku shared the title. Kane has also provided five assists, making him a Bundesliga record-breaking 22 goals in total.
