Towards elevating Vietnam - Chile relations

During his official visit to Chile, President Luong Cuong met with Senate President José Garcia Ruminot and House of Representatives President Karol Cariola on November 11.

Hope the National Assembly of the two countries will strengthen cooperation

At two meetings at the Chilean National Assembly headquarters on the morning of November 11 (Chile time, the same day Vietnam time), President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing friendly relations and cooperation in all aspects with Latin American countries, in which Chile holds an important position.

Vietnam always remembers the solidarity and valuable support of the Chilean people in the resistance war for national independence and reunification, as well as in the cause of national development today.

Through this visit, Vietnam hopes to further deepen the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries, making it more substantive and effective, and to elevate the relationship in the coming time.

President Luong Cuong affirmed that strengthening parliamentary relations is one of the important pillars of the two countries' diplomacy.

Thereby contributing to promoting the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Chile in general as well as establishing and implementing a favorable legal corridor between the two countries in particular.

The Head of State of Vietnam hopes and supports the National Assemblies of the two countries to continue to strengthen cooperation through promoting exchanges between the two friendship parliamentarian groups and exchanges of National Assembly delegations at all levels, and coordinating activities at forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), etc.

For his part, President of the Chilean Senate José Garcia Ruminot affirmed that the visit of the Vietnamese President will create momentum to deepen and elevate the comprehensive partnership between the two countries across all state, parliamentary and people-to-people diplomatic channels.

Assessing that the Vietnam - Chile relationship in general and the parliamentary relationship between the two countries in particular have continued to develop strongly in recent times, Mr. José Garcia Ruminot expressed his joy that two-way trade turnover continues to be a bright spot in bilateral relations, reaching more than 1.3 billion USD in the first 9 months of 2024.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong conveyed to the leaders of the Chilean Senate the regards and invitation to visit Vietnam from National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Promoting cooperation between specialized agencies of the National Assembly of the two countries

As for Speaker of the House of Representatives Karol Cariola , at the meeting, President Luong Cuong expressed his admiration for the heroic history and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the just war to protect the country's independence, sovereignty and unification.

Ms. Karol Cariola agreed that in the coming time, she will continue to promote and strengthen cooperation between the two National Assemblies in exchanging legislative, supervisory and deciding important issues of the country.

At the same time, promote cooperation between the professional agencies of the two countries' National Assemblies in training, fostering, improving the capacity of officials, exchanging experiences; and supporting each other's stance on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two sides also had in-depth exchanges and shared stances on many regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Chilean House of Representatives Speaker Karol Cariola agreed that disputes over sovereignty and territory need to be resolved by peaceful means, on the basis of respect for international law, especially the United Nations Charter and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

On this occasion, the President also conveyed to the President of the Chilean House of Representatives the regards of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders and an invitation to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
