Hong Hanh releases album after 15 years

Lyric singer releases CD Love you blue sea , includes eight songs like Remembering the Sea, Shallow Sea, Wild Life, Love Story of the Sea, Beside You is the Wide Sea . Hong Hanh and Vo Thien Thanh are from the same hometown of Binh Thuan, having known each other since the 1990s when collaborating on compilation CDs and shows. She admired his talent for arranging music but had not had the opportunity to make a solo album together.

In 2021, Hong Hanh met him and invited him to produce a music album. It took four years, including a hiatus due to Covid-19, for them to complete it and release it in early summer. "I think summer is the right time to listen to love songs about the sea. When Hong Hanh asked me to participate, I was determined to make a meticulous and elaborate album, because in my opinion, after many years in the profession, she still sings as well as before," the musician said.

Vo Thien Thanh incorporated natural sounds into the background music, such as the sound of waves, seagulls calling to each other, and footsteps rustling on the sand. He chose symphonic music as the main color for the album, combining many genres, such as gospel ( Love is forever our life ), semi-classical ( Boat and the sea ), reggae ( Love story of the sea ), and smooth jazz ( Beside you is the wide sea ). The album's title song is a new composition by Vo Thien Thanh, arranged in the swing jazz style, placed at the end of the disc.

Shallow sea - a famous love song by Kim Tuan - was recorded by Hong Hanh during the Covid-19 period. According to the singer, at that time, both she and the musician felt uneasy about the turbulent life. They put that mood into the recording, the strings were treated in many layers like the sound of waves, the ending is the sound of sea foam when it disappears, implying the impermanence of life. Hong Hanh recorded it while her voice was choked due to a cold, which coincidentally matched the arrangement. Later, she suggested re-recording it, but Vo Thien Thanh did not agree because she liked the previous "imperfect" recording.

Hong Hanh, 60 years old, is the daughter of artist Ngoc Cam and musician Nguyen Huu Thiet. She started singing at the age of 12 and became famous early. In the late 1980s, musician Trinh Cong Son once chose her as the lead singer in the album Hey do you remember? released by the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Writers and Artists. This was his first album after Khanh Ly went to America in 1975. The song How many degrees yellow flowers helped her make her mark, becoming one of Trinh's musical muses. After Hong Hanh switched to singing other genres of music, the opportunity to collaborate with Trinh Cong Son also gradually decreased. Later, after getting married and having children in the 1990s, the singer gradually became less active.
