In the new developments of the movie "My Father, the One Who Stays", Ms. Lien (Thu Quynh) continuously puts pressure on Nguyen (Tran Nghia) to come back and live with her.
Things were not going as planned, so Ms. Lien called her ex-husband, Mr. Chinh (Meritorious Artist Bui Nhu Lai) to question him. She thought that Mr. Chinh was the one who kept Nguyen in Vietnam, because Nguyen had asked her to return home to visit his father and younger brother.
However, Mr. Chinh confirmed that Nguyen was working at a hospital near his home and had no intention of going abroad to live with his mother.
Lien could not bear the absence of her son and began to cry and be angry. Mr. Chinh also refused to let his son leave again. Due to conflicts with his ex-wife, he was careless and almost had an accident at the construction site.
Meanwhile, Lien called Nguyen crying. She promised that if Nguyen came back to her, she would let him come back to Vietnam more often. "What about mom? Now you've abandoned me and will never care about me again, right?", Lien sobbed and asked her son.
When she found out that her ex-husband was close to female architect Tue Minh (Luong Thu Trang), Lien also got angry and continuously caused trouble.
When watching the film, the audience commented that Ms. Lien was an annoying character, and the couple Ms. Lien and Mr. Chinh, although divorced, still had many conflicts and disagreements in raising children.
Previously, Ms. Lien divorced Mr. Chinh after their daughter unfortunately died in an accident. Due to the great pain, Ms. Lien became cruel and always criticized Nguyen. Therefore, Mr. Chinh decided to divorce to protect his son.
Even though they have been divorced for a decade, Mr. Chinh and Ms. Lien still argue and quarrel whenever it comes to child care. Nguyen, who grew up in many tragedies, also suffers from depression and has many psychological traumas.
Actress Thu Quynh shared that the character Lien's personality is completely opposite to her in real life. "Lien brings me many fears as well as negative emotions, but I have to convey all the tragedy of the character," the actress said.
For Thu Quynh, the most haunting scene was when Lien woke up in the hospital. That was the scene in episode 15, when Lien woke up after a terrible accident and heard the news that both her second husband and daughter had passed away. Lien's mother had also passed away a few days before.
"I don't want to absorb too much negative energy and keep it in me for too long, so I try to focus on only filming each angle once. I keep my mind blank when acting that scene and let all the emotions flow naturally," Thu Quynh recounted.
Meanwhile, Meritorious Artist Bui Nhu Lai had an impressive role, receiving much love from the audience. Mr. Chinh is a righteous, generous person, warm inside but cold outside.
At the end of the film, Mr. Chinh shows his affection for the architect Tue Minh. The scene where Mr. Chinh smiles when receiving a message from Tue Minh attracted tens of thousands of views.
The film marks the return of artist Bui Nhu Lai after the film "Under the shade of the happy tree" in 2023. Doctor - Meritorious Artist Bui Nhu Lai currently holds the position of Vice Principal of Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema.
