On January 2, 2025, at the beginning of the new year, 108 Military Central Hospital successfully removed and transplanted 4 organs from a brain-dead donor.

4 organs including heart, liver and 2 corneas for patients at the hospital, and at the same time coordinated 2 kidneys to Cho Ray Hospital.

The organ donor was a 63-year-old female patient, Vietnamese, living and working in Laos. The patient returned to Vietnam for work but unfortunately contracted a serious illness and passed away on December 29, 2024 at the 108 Military Central Hospital.

Doctors at 108 Military Central Hospital are performing an organ transplant on a patient.

After the medical team tried their best to save him, but he could not survive, the patient's family agreed to donate his organs to save the lives of other patients.

This is a noble gesture, showing the heart of a child far from home, always looking towards the country, saving the lives of those who are suffering from illness. Organ donation not only saves many lives but also lights up the flame of infinite hope for the community.

Immediately after the patient's family agreed to donate organs, the Professional Council of 108 Military Central Hospital conducted a brain death diagnosis according to the correct procedure, with the participation of 03 independent experts.

After confirmation, the hospital urgently planned the organ retrieval and transplant, and closely coordinated with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center and Cho Ray Hospital to make a list of organ recipients.

On the afternoon of January 2, 2025, doctors at the 108 Military Central Hospital successfully performed organ transplants at the hospital, including heart and liver transplants for 2 patients. Two corneas were prepared for transplants for 2 patients next week. At the same time, 2 kidneys were transported overnight to Cho Ray Hospital for transplants.

After organ transplants, all patients at the 108 Military Central Hospital are in stable health. The heart transplant patient has begun to be weaned off the ventilator, is conscious, and has gradually stabilized blood pressure. The liver transplant patient regained consciousness this morning, had his endotracheal tube removed, is breathing on his own, and his liver function is recovering well.

Previously, at the end of 2024, 108 Military Central Hospital coordinated with Hung Yen Provincial General Hospital to perform the first organ donation here.

With 152 kidney transplants, 47 liver transplants, 10 cornea transplants and 2 heart transplants in 2024, 108 Military Central Hospital continues to affirm its role as the largest liver transplant center in Southeast Asia.

The hospital has transferred liver and kidney transplant techniques to many hospitals across the country, including Military Hospital 175, Bach Mai Hospital, E Hospital, Quang Nam General Hospital...

108 Military Central Hospital not only performs organ transplants domestically but also aims to become a center for technology transfer and learning from advanced countries to help improve the quality of organ transplants in Vietnam.

According to the leader of the 108 Military Central Hospital, this agency will continue to maintain and promote achievements in organ transplant work, while promoting cooperation, training and technology transfer activities to bring more life opportunities to patients in the future.
