The Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line has a total length of more than 30km and was invested in construction since 1966. The starting point of the line is Cau Giat station (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An), the end point is Nghia Dan station (now Thai Hoa town, Nghe An). |
The railway line was once considered an important part of Vietnam's railway system, the traffic artery connecting the lowlands and the highlands of Nghe An province. |
During its heyday, the route helped connect the Northwest region of Nghe An with the North-South railway. It facilitated trade, passenger and cargo transportation. |
Not only that, during the war, this route also played a strategic role in logistics such as transporting food, weapons and troops from the rear to the front line. |
At its peak, there were days when this railway line ran 2 or 3 trains. |
However, in the early 2000s, with the development of road traffic, the number of customers on this railway line gradually decreased. |
By 2012, the last trains on the railway had to be temporarily stopped. Since then, the entire railway has fallen into serious disrepair. In the photo, Nghia Dan station (Thai Hoa town, Nghe An) is abandoned. |
The entire line has 3 stations (Nghia Dan, Nghia Thuan and Quynh Chau), 6 guardhouses and 4 switchboards. But in reality, these structures have also seriously degraded. |
Inside the stations are in serious disrepair. |
The station system is cracked and dilapidated. |
The management unit must put up warning signs to keep people from going inside. |
The rail items are rusted and damaged. |
Many residential level crossings have filled the railway track system. |
People living on both sides encroach on the railway tracks. |
Although the train has stopped running, every year the Ministry of Transport still has to allocate funds to supervise and maintain (inspection, protection of infrastructure, protection of works on the route, protection against encroachment of traffic safety corridors) of this railway line. |
Recently, voters of Thai Hoa town have petitioned to move Nghia Dan station out of the town center because the railway has been inactive for more than 10 years. The Ministry of Transport later responded in writing that it will continue to maintain this railway line. |
