Ha Giang has majestic natural scenery with 19 ethnic groups living together, creating a unique and rich regional identity. In particular, Dong Van district is one of 4 mountainous and rocky districts that owns a UNESCO global geopark, mainly inhabited by ethnic minorities, in which the cultural nuances of the Mong and Lo Lo ethnic groups... create a unique feature for Dong Van district. The heritages expressed through house architecture, stone fences, the art of Khen dance, ethnic costumes, weaving, etc. are effectively exploited by the district.
One of the successes of Ha Giang is demonstrated through the organization of the 10th Buckwheat Flower Festival with the theme "The land of flowers to remember" marking 10 years of the Buckwheat Flower Festival on the tourism map. Localities have focused on directing the planting of buckwheat in large areas, with highlights of hundreds of hectares to attract tourists; organizing art programs imbued with the breath of the Stone Plateau, ethnic costume contests... Through the festival, preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities; honoring the unique values, beautiful images of life and people here; promoting and introducing typical tourism products to tourists. During the festival, Dong Van district attracted more than 13,000 visitors.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Nga, a tourist from Da Nang, shared: “I am really impressed and surprised by the beauty here. I was able to immerse myself in the life of the people of the Stone Plateau with its ancient, mossy architecture, unique culture, typical cuisine of the people, and the people are very friendly…”.
In particular, in order to upgrade infrastructure and create highlights to attract tourists to the 10th Buckwheat Flower Festival, Dong Van has built and renovated 12 tourist highlights in key communes and towns. During the planning and development process, the district has led the preservation of traditional beauty, ensuring harmony and not destroying the landscape and topography of the Stone Plateau... In particular, the most prominent is the stone fence at the beginning of Dong Van town, attached to the Dong Van district welcome gate, with a total length of nearly 2km. This is the longest stone structure in the area with a total investment of 3.8 billion VND. The District Performance Center is designed in a circle with an outer edge of three steps, 28m in diameter with a total area of over 615m2, the yard is paved with marble and bronze drum patterns of the Lo Lo ethnic group. Socialized items include a commercial center, cuisine, entertainment... built according to the traditional architecture of the Mong ethnic group; The Performance Center will create conditions for tourists to have activities of exchanging folk songs, folk dances, culture, and nighttime arts when traveling to the district...
In Lo Lo Chai village, Lung Cu commune, the preservation and promotion of the cultural identity of the Lo Lo people has been effectively exploited by Dong Van district. The village currently has 119 households and 542 people living there. Since implementing community tourism, the appearance of Lo Lo Chai village has become increasingly prosperous, and the lives of the people have gradually improved significantly. Moreover, the Lo Lo people in the northernmost point are now more interested in preserving and promoting cultural values and national identity and using that as a strength to develop community tourism.
To preserve and promote traditional cultural values associated with sustainable tourism development, we pay great attention to urban planning, construction planning and tourism development planning. In particular, all highlights, new construction works and tourism products must follow traditional architecture.
Mr. Do Quoc Huong, Chairman of Dong Van District People's Committee
Mr. Sinh Di Gai, Head of Lo Lo Chai village, shared: “More than 10 years ago, villagers only knew how to grow corn and raise livestock on a small scale, but now, the village has 42 households doing tourism. Not only does it enrich the family, each household also creates jobs for 2-4 local workers, each worker has an income of 5-7 million VND/month. Doing tourism, villagers not only have a high income, but also preserve and promote their ethnic culture to tourists, so villagers are very excited.”
To guide households in community tourism, the Party Committee and local authorities have provided funding and training in communication skills, foreign languages, cooking skills, and tourist services... At the same time, they have focused on raising awareness among households about environmental protection, preserving and conserving the traditional cultural values of the Lo Lo people... Thanks to the preservation of residential architecture, the traditional culture of Lo Lo Chai has become the most attractive tourist destination in the land of "flowers even on rocks".
