Sinkholes have been in the news recently after a 48-year-old Indian tourist fell into a sinkhole in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur on August 23. The search for the missing tourist, identified as Vijayaletchumy, is now in its seventh day.
Another sinkhole appeared in the same area on August 28, forcing Malaysian authorities to close a 400-meter stretch of road, but the pedestrian walkway remained open. Authorities did not say when the road would reopen.
Malaysian authorities will conduct an "integrity check" of the area's drainage system after a second sinkhole appeared on the road in just five days.
