Reasonable adjustment to satisfy the people

It has been a long time since I had the opportunity to drive on Dang Thai Than Street, the street that runs parallel to the rear wall of Hue Imperial City. When there were few vehicles and the roads were still free to travel, from here on my way home I always turned onto Doan Thi Diem Street, a beautiful and shady street with rows of green trees that seemed to bump into each other. When I reached 23/8 Street, I could exit the Imperial City in the direction of Ngan Gate or Thuong Tu Gate. Later, regulations were put in place to determine which gate was allowed to exit and which gate was allowed to enter, and that the road was one-way traffic… then I turned right onto Doan Thi Diem Street, after about a few dozen meters I turned left onto Mai Thuc Loan, then turned right onto Dinh Tien Hoang to exit Thuong Tu Gate.

Later, I realized that I was reckless, Doan Thi Diem Street is prohibited from north-south traffic right from the intersection with Dang Thai Than Street. That means that vehicles coming from Dang Thai Than Street must all turn left and then find a way to Dinh Tien Hoang, Mai Thuc Loan, Dang Dung... depending on their needs. If they just follow "inertia", turn right and then turn into Mai Thuc Loan, it is considered "getting caught", it is against the law. And very... happily, the number of people "getting caught" is extremely large. The reason is that although there are signs, in reality, many of us do not understand what the signs "say". That is the reality, especially for people riding motorbikes. That is why we get caught. Another reason is that the prohibition sign is posted at the beginning of the intersection from Dang Thai Than to Doan Thi Diem, so it is very sudden for motorists. The mentality is that when approaching the turn, we have to worry about whether there are any vehicles to handle, few people look up to see the sign because it will be distracting, very dangerous. But not looking at the signs will lead to violations. Unless people living in the area, or frequently passing through here, are reminded by the traffic police at the checkpoint for a while, and then fined, then they will know and gradually get used to not violating. As for "passing guests", for the reasons mentioned above, it is understandable that many people get caught.

One of my brothers, a police lieutenant colonel, also from Hue, drove here without permission, so he was also whistled by his colleagues. Later, he called me to confide in me, telling journalists to speak up, fines are fined, but in the beginning, there should be a force to block and guide the people. He himself did not know that this move had been done before. Now it is the stage where road users must pay attention and voluntarily comply, because there cannot be any force to block and guide indefinitely. But compliance is compliance, but violations are also... countless due to the objective reasons mentioned above. Many people are upset, it would be more reasonable to ban right at the beginning of Doan Thi Diem Street, from the intersection with Mai Thuc Loan Street. Because that would create convenience for vehicles to travel to Mai Thuc Loan, and it would also be easier to observe the sign when turning from Dang Thai Than, the sign would be right opposite, easy for everyone to see and proactively handle and comply.

Back to my case the other day, when I arrived at the intersection of Dang Thai Than and Doan Thi Diem, I obediently turned left towards Nhat Le Street before turning onto Dinh Tien Hoang Street. The guy sitting behind me was surprised: “Why didn’t you turn right, to Mai Thuc Loan Street, which is closer?”; “The police fined me, that way is prohibited”; “It’s been removed, bro, today it’s only prohibited at the Mai Thuc Loan intersection, you’re so backward!”; “Really, it’s been so long since I’ve been here, you’re really backward”. While saying that, I turned the car around, not to save a little more road but to see what the sign actually looked like. And just as my guy said, the no-entry-in-the-wrong-way sign had been moved to the beginning of Doan Thi Diem Street, near the intersection with Mai Thuc Loan Street. So reasonable and so welcome.

Thus, the authorities have listened to the people's feedback and made adjustments to suit the reality of life. This adjustment not only helps ensure traffic order on Doan Thi Diem Street, relieves people's frustration and anger, but also reduces the workload of the authorities to coordinate for key positions that need more attention. Suddenly thinking, not only in the field of traffic but also in any field, knowing how to listen, absorb and adjust to suit the reality of life will be very good and effective for work.
