(Dan Tri) - Over the past 5 years, Ngoc Linh ginseng has helped thousands of households in Tu Mo Rong district escape poverty. Hundreds of other households have also become rich, built houses, and bought cars.

On December 10, the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district, Kon Tum province organized a workshop on Ngoc Linh ginseng - Vietnamese ginseng from historical, scientific and practical perspectives.

At the workshop, Mr. Vo Trung Manh, Chairman of Tu Mo Rong District People's Committee, said that more than 2,800 hectares of ginseng are being grown in the district. Over the years, the cultivation of Ngoc Linh ginseng has contributed to changing the awareness and thinking of the Xo Dang ethnic minority people.

At the same time, this medicinal herb has helped nearly 2,000 households in the district escape poverty over the past 5 years. In addition, hundreds of other households have also become rich, built houses, and bought cars thanks to growing Ngoc Linh ginseng.

According to Mr. Manh, the workshop introduced the process of discovery to make Ngoc Linh ginseng brand become "national treasure" of Vietnam. Here, experts and scientists guided people on how to distinguish real Ngoc Linh ginseng from fake, which is flooding the market.

Ms. Y Gia Nhi (residing in Mo Banh 1 village, Dak Na commune, Tu Mo Rong district) shared: "In recent years, Ngoc Linh ginseng has become the hope of escaping poverty for the Xo Dang people. Many people are willing to borrow capital to cooperate with Ngoc Linh ginseng growing enterprises. My family has used all the income from labor export to build a ginseng garden of up to thousands of trees."

According to Ms. Gia Nhi, the market is flooded with many types of tubers that look similar to Ngoc Linh ginseng, making it difficult for customers to distinguish between real and fake. This situation not only causes damage to consumers but also damages the reputation of genuine ginseng growers.

"We hope that through the workshop, experts and authorities will find effective management solutions, clearly announcing the value and difference of Ngoc Linh ginseng, to protect this valuable brand," said Ms. Y Gia Nhi.

Kon Tum province is growing 2,900 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng, Tu Mo Rong district alone has about 2,883 hectares with about 1,650 households and 4 businesses participating in the cultivation. Over the years, the province has invested in infrastructure to create the most favorable conditions for people and businesses to build Ngoc Linh ginseng into the "capital" of Vietnam.

At the workshop, the participating units signed cooperation agreements on scientific research and established the Ngoc Linh Ginseng Research Institute in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ngoc Linh ginseng is known as a "national treasure", distributed in many areas of Ngoc Linh mountain (Kon Tum) and Quang Nam. Each kilogram of Ngoc Linh ginseng costs from tens to over hundreds of millions of VND, depending on the age.

Ngoc Linh ginseng only lives and grows well under the forest canopy at an altitude of over 2,000m above sea level. For many years, businesses and households have planted ginseng under the forest canopy to develop the economy.
