NDO - On the morning of March 15, more than 1,000 people participated in a rally and walk in response to World Oral Health Day at Nghinh Luong Dinh Square, Hue City.

In response to World Oral Health Day (March 20, 2025), the FDI World Dental Federation sent a letter calling on Dental Associations of all countries to respond and take action to improve oral health for children and communities globally with the slogan: "A happy mouth is a happy mind".

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said that currently, in Vietnam, the rate of oral diseases is still high, especially in children and the elderly. In fact, many people do not really pay proper attention to oral care and protection, leading to many health consequences.

In our country, according to the results of the national oral health survey published in 2019, over 90% of people suffer from oral diseases that affect their health and quality of life. Therefore, preventing oral diseases for the community, especially children, is important and needs attention to bring economic and social benefits.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Binh, President of Vietnam Dental Association spoke at the event.

Recognizing this importance, the Ministry of Health always puts oral health care as one of the key tasks in the people's health care strategy.

"We have been implementing many programs and policies to raise public awareness and expand dental care services, especially in schools and remote areas. Today's walking rally is a sports activity to improve overall health and has a broad propaganda meaning, contributing to raising public awareness of the importance of oral care. I appreciate the initiative and efforts of the Vietnam Association of Dentistry in organizing this event," said Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen.

Thousands of people responded to the program.

Over the past decade, the Vietnam Dental Association in collaboration with the oral care brand P/S, a subsidiary of Unilever Vietnam Co., Ltd., has organized many activities in response to World Oral Health Day on March 20. The Association has been recognized by the world dental community as one of the members responsible for public health, with many contributions and effective activities for the oral health of children and the community.

This year, the association called on dental facilities nationwide to participate in the month of free dental examination and consultation for children and the community. Nearly 60 dental facilities nationwide, both public and private, have registered to respond.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Binh, President of the Vietnam Association of Dentistry, affirmed that World Oral Health Day is truly a festival for dental colleagues nationwide to change the awareness and behavior of each member of our community to care for oral health for children, for themselves, for their loved ones and for the community with the slogan 2:2:2:2 (Brush your teeth twice a day; Brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes/time; Limit eating for 2 hours after brushing your teeth; Have regular dental check-ups twice a year).

Delegates set off on foot to respond to the festival.

Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen emphasized that in order to continue improving the quality of oral health care for people, all levels, sectors and the entire community should pay attention to and promote oral health education and communication to each person, especially children, to help form proper oral hygiene habits from an early age.

In addition, it is necessary to improve the quality of dental care services from the grassroots level, creating conditions for all people, especially vulnerable groups, to access appropriate dental care services.

"We need to promote close coordination between the health sector, education sector and social organizations to effectively implement oral health care programs in schools and communities," Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen suggested.
