On the morning of October 22, the Provincial Association of the Elderly in coordination with the Hai Duong Provincial Women's Union organized a ceremony to honor exemplary elderly people participating in building the grassroots political system and elderly women in building cultural, prosperous and happy families.
Provincial Party Committee members: Nguyen Khac Toan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Elderly Affairs Committee of Hai Duong province attended.
Also attending were representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, leaders of a number of provincial departments, branches, sectors and unions.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung acknowledged and commended the achievements of the Association of the Elderly. In recent years, the work of protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly has received special attention. Elderly women in Hai Duong are not only the ones who preserve cultural values and traditional customs, but also have many contributions to the local socio-economic development. The Women's Union at all levels always pay attention to implementing the Campaign to build "5 yes, 3 clean" families associated with building cultural, prosperous, happy, progressive and civilized families; actively encouraging and promoting the role of elderly women in the locality.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung requested all levels, sectors, socio-political organizations, and enterprises to continue to do a good job in protecting, caring for, and promoting the role of the elderly. Continuously improve the quality of life and happiness index of the elderly. Encourage the elderly to promote their pioneering, exemplary, intelligent, experienced, and prestigious roles in all areas of social life; strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws. Educate and impart to the younger generation about the nation's personality, morality, and fine traditions. Actively apply their own skills and experiences to work, production, and economic development. Be exemplary, participate in building a united community, and reconcile conflicts right from the grassroots level; pay attention to promoting the work of encouraging learning and talent, building a learning society, and self-management models.
Departments, branches and organizations regularly and effectively disseminate the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State on the elderly, especially the national action program on the elderly for the period 2021-2030 and implement policies for the elderly. Continue to review and supplement the province's specific mechanisms and policies for the elderly, with special priority given to the elderly in difficult and disadvantaged circumstances in accordance with the province's conditions.
Continue to prioritize poverty reduction for the elderly, improve housing conditions, access to basic services, especially medical services, health care, legal aid... for the elderly. Create conditions for the elderly to be supported and participate in cultural, sports and tourism activities. Strengthen leadership, direction, create favorable conditions for the elderly to build the Elderly Association at all levels to be increasingly strong and comprehensive, develop members, improve the quality of activities so that the organization is truly the second home of the elderly.
On this occasion, the Chairman of Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 12 outstanding elderly people participating in building the political system in the period of 2019-2024 and 12 outstanding elderly women in building a cultured, prosperous and happy family. The Women's Union and the Association of the Elderly awarded 71 outstanding elderly people participating in the grassroots political system and outstanding elderly women.
Hai Duong currently has about 336,127 elderly people (accounting for about 17% of the population), including 188,231 women, over 54,000 people aged 80 and over. There are more than 13,300 elderly people participating in party, government, social management and union activities at all levels, especially at the grassroots level; more than 6,600 elderly people have achieved the title of good economic performers; more than 2,400 elderly people are farm owners, business owners, production and business establishments, creating jobs and income for thousands of local workers, contributing to the provincial budget and actively participating in social security work.
