This top-notch match will take place at 6 p.m. on July 2, ensuring that a Vietnamese player will qualify for the final match, competing for the championship of the 2023 World Cup in Europe. To participate in such an anticipated "internal" semi-final, Tran Quyet Chien had a performance that exceeded expectations when defeating world No. 6 Kim Haeng-jik (Korea) with a score of 50-31 after 24 turns, achieving an extremely high efficiency of 2,083 points/turn.

Meanwhile, Chiem Hong Thai had more difficulties against the world number 18 player from Germany, Martin Horn. The two sides were evenly matched from the start until the score was 38-38, when the Vietnamese player unexpectedly hit a 9-point turn to take the lead 47-38. This huge gap helped Chiem Hong Thai play more confidently and the 24-year-old player only needed two more turns to end the match with a 50-44 victory.

The impressive results in the quarterfinals of Tran Quyet Chien and Chiem Hong Thai made domestic fans happy. Previously, the Vietnamese team had four representatives who passed the qualifying round: Tran Quyet Chien, Chiem Hong Thai, Bao Phuong Vinh and Tran Thanh Luc. Unfortunately, in the round of 16, Bao Phuong Vinh had to face and lose to his young teammate Chiem Hong Thai, while Asian runner-up Tran Thanh Luc lost to world number 2 Marco Zanetti (Italy).

The last time a Vietnamese player reached the final of the three-cushion carom billiards World Cup was Tran Quyet Chien in 2022 in Türkiye, but he ultimately lost to the world's number 1 player at that time, Dick Jaspers. The only time to date that a Vietnamese player won the championship was also Tran Quyet Chien when he defeated his teammate Ngo Dinh Nai in the final of the World Cup tour held in Ho Chi Minh City in 2018.

Tran Quyet Chien was once a World Cup champion.

The remaining semi-final match of the 2013 Carom Billiards World Cup will be between Jeremy Bury (Belgium, ranked 11th in the world) and Sameh Sidhom (Egypt, ranked 8th). Tran Quyet Chien is ranked 12th in the world, while Chiem Hong Thai is outside the Top 30. The final match will take place at 10pm on July 2 (Vietnam time).

The 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup takes place in several stages throughout the year, with Porto being the third stage after Las Vegas and Ho Chi Minh City, taking place from June 26 to July 2.
