According to Engadget , Google Play Store is preparing for a major change, bringing opportunities for RMG (real-money gaming) game enthusiasts. After starting to allow real-money related applications in 2021, the tech giant has just announced a loosening of policies, allowing more types of games and publishers that are currently unlicensed.
Google opens the door to real money games
Before making this bold decision, Google had been testing in several regions around the world since 2021, including India with the card games Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports . Accordingly, the new policy will officially take effect in India, Mexico and Brazil from June 30.
Developers participating in the pilot program are free to deploy existing applications and other types of reward games, as long as they meet local regulations.
Google has emphasized its plans to expand the reach of real-money games in the future, but will keep age requirements and legal region restrictions in place. It also revealed that it is “improving the service fee model” for these apps. It is possible that Google will change its payment method, allowing direct charging on the Play Store to increase revenue.
Google’s loosening of its reward game policy will certainly benefit both users and developers. Users will have more game options, while developers will have the opportunity to reach a potential new market. However, it is important that all parties involved ensure strict compliance with age, region, and financial regulations to avoid gambling and money laundering risks.
