Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will receive a $79.1 million pay package in fiscal 2024, up 63% from the previous year.
According to a filing with regulators, Microsoft said 90% of Satya Nadella's compensation package in fiscal year 2024 (ending June 30, 2024) is stock awards, worth about $71 million.
It's the biggest pay package he's received since being paid $84 million in 2014, the year he became the software company's third CEO.
Microsoft shares rose about 31.2% over the same period. Thanks to the investment in OpenAI, the US technology giant's position in the AI market has been further consolidated. Its capitalization has also surpassed the $3,000 billion mark.
According to Microsoft, the salary package would have been about $5 million higher if Nadella had not proposed a salary cut to "reflect personal responsibility" for the cybersecurity risks the company faced.
The Windows maker has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years, including from the US Cybersecurity Review Board, over a series of attacks targeting its software.
The Microsoft compensation board credited Nadella with “exceptional leadership” in helping the company deliver strong business results and continually repositioning investments and priorities.
According to the filing, Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood was paid $25.8 million, up 30% from a year ago. President Brad Smith received $23.4 million.
