"Forest in the city"
As a city on a plateau endowed with many advantages with fertile red basalt soil, Ea Tam stream flowing along the inner city has created for Buon Ma Thuot a diverse ecosystem with unique, prominent green spaces.
Buon Ma Thuot is beautiful almost every season. Traveling in the inner city, especially on Tran Hung Dao, Le Duan, Phan Boi Chau, Le Thanh Tong, Tran Quang Khai, Cao Thang, Nguyen Luong Bang streets, you can feel the cool, fresh air under the shady rows of green trees.
Not only in residential areas and long-standing roads, but also in the process of planning and building new residential areas, the city government and residents pay special attention and prioritize planting trees and systems of flower gardens, small flower gardens, and landscape forests in a systematic and scientific manner.

Located in the center of Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Museum is located in the 6-hectare campus of the Bao Dai Palace National Historical Site. The Palace campus is the only place in the city with many primeval trees and ancient trees hundreds of years old such as: camphor, purple-flowered jasmine, pointed needle, black star and green grass carpets... creating a unique "forest in the city" space for Buon Ma Thuot city.
Promoting the strengths of the century-old city, Buon Ma Thuot has also chosen Phan Dinh Giot street with rows of ancient tamarind trees to build a walking street, organize many exciting cultural activities and a place for people and tourists to take souvenir photos.

The plus point of Buon Ma Thuot city is not only the roads and green areas but also many "villages in the city" that preserve and develop in a green, modern and unique direction. One can mention Akô Dhông village (Tan Loi ward). The inner-village roads are shaded by trees and flowers. The traditional long houses surrounded by gardens are an advantage for the people in the village to develop tourism and services.
In 2024, Buon Ma Thuot City has met the criteria and proposed the Association of Vietnamese Cities and the Central Highlands Urban Cluster to vote as a "Green - clean - beautiful city associated with green growth".

In particular, the suburban area also retains many forests and water wharves, creating a poetic natural landscape. That is a lush green forest of nearly 1 hectare with many ancient trees, a clear water wharf, flowing all year round, and green tree-lined inner-village roads in Kmrong Prong B hamlet, Ea Tu commune. That is Ea Kao forest park (Ea Kao commune) with green trees by Ea Kao lake, which has become a familiar destination not only for people in the province, but also attracts tourists from near and far.
Towards green urban identity
Conclusion 67-KL/TW, dated December 16, 2019 of the Politburo on the construction and development of Buon Ma Thuot city to 2030, with a vision to 2045, has oriented the goal of "Building and developing Buon Ma Thuot city to become a central urban area of the Central Highlands region on the basis of exploiting and maximizing the potentials and advantages of the city... in the direction of green, ecological, smart and unique identity of the Central Highlands region". Based on that policy and orientation, Buon Ma Thuot city has been focusing on building and embellishing the urban area with a green and sustainable ecosystem.
In 2024, the city launched a movement to compete in building a "Green - Clean - Beautiful City associated with green growth", focusing on planting and caring for trees to green the city. Currently, the area of inner-city green trees is more than 224 hectares, the area of green trees in the whole city is over 692 hectares. The area of public green trees is 8.6 m2/person; the area of green trees in the whole city is an average of 17.6 m2/person. Buon Ma Thuot is currently one of the cities with the highest green tree ratio in the country and maintains its position in the top 10 greenest - cleanest - most beautiful cities in the country.
In addition to planting trees according to the plan, in recent years, people have joined hands with the government to build green cities by planting thousands of trees themselves, beautifying the landscape around their homes and public areas.

According to Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot City People's Committee Vu Van Hung, in order to create a highlight and unique identity for Buon Ma Thuot, the city prioritizes choosing diverse tree species, including Kơ nia trees, which are typical of the Central Highlands, to plant and care for. In 2024 alone, the city planted over 1,400 trees of all kinds, planned and renovated flower gardens and small flower gardens to create a green - clean - beautiful living environment. On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the province's founding, the city has implemented a plan to plant 5,000 trees in the area, contributing to building Buon Ma Thuot into a green, ecological, smart, and unique urban area according to Conclusion No. 67 of the Politburo and Resolution No. 72 of the National Assembly.
