Domestic pepper price updated on January 31, 2025 |
According to experts, with the decline in production from major producing countries such as Vietnam and Brazil facing crop failures, Indonesia has emerged as a potential supplier. According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), in 2024, the average FOB price of black pepper increased sharply by 45% to reach 4,639 USD/ton in Brazil, up 48.4% compared to 2023. In Malaysia, the FOB price of black pepper also increased by 37%, while white pepper increased by 26%.
Global pepper supply will continue to decline in 2025, while demand from major markets such as the US and Europe will remain stable, creating momentum for prices to remain high. Meanwhile, China is currently facing low pepper inventories and may start buying again after the Lunar New Year, when Vietnam's main harvest begins.
Although expectations of a price reduction have not materialized, pepper prices in Vietnam have remained stable at VND140,000/kg over the past three months, a signal that prices have not fluctuated much, even though the market is facing a reduction in production from some major producing countries.

According to statistics from the International Pepper Association (IPC), in 2023, India surpassed Brazil to become the second largest pepper producing country in the world, however, most of India's pepper output is consumed domestically. In 2024, India's pepper output reached 125,000 tons and was the country with the highest increase in pepper production with about 7% (8,000 tons) compared to 2023.
However, the IPC forecasts that the situation for Indian pepper will not be optimistic in 2025 when the output could decrease by up to 38%. The reason is the impact of floods, leading to farmers limiting investment and liquidating inventories when domestic prices decrease.
Global pepper prices in 2025 are expected to remain high due to reduced supply, while demand in major markets such as the US and Europe remains stable. Pepper use in the food and spice processing industries remains the main driver of the market.
