“With strong resilience and creativity, female entrepreneurs can become leaders, contributing to making their mark in the era of national development,” emphasized Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen, Executive Vice President of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, VCCI.
Digitalization and greening are identified as inevitable trends for businesses. Female entrepreneurs are always pioneers in the trend of greening lifestyles and greening production and business activities.
Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen, Vice President in charge of operations of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, shared with PNVN about activities accompanying female entrepreneurs during this "dual transformation" period.
+ In 2025 and the coming time, digitalization and greening are considered inevitable development trends for businesses. Could you please share your opinion on this assessment?
Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen: In my opinion, this statement is completely correct. We can relate it to the following arguments:
Under the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital transformation is an inevitable trend, a matter of survival for countries, organizations, businesses and consumers around the world. Especially in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, we see that if businesses do not use digital platforms, their business will be greatly affected, and many businesses have even had to completely change their transaction methods and approach customers to adapt to the new context.
Green transformation is also an inevitable trend as consumer awareness increases and import markets become more demanding. The Vietnamese Government has proactively taken the lead in this trend when, in 2021, the Government issued the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050. Thereby realizing Vietnam's commitments to the international community on sustainable development and climate change, especially the commitment to bring net emissions "to zero" by 2050 at the COP26 Conference.
According to statistics, as of August 2024, the country has about 930,000 operating enterprises, contributing more than 60% of GDP, creating jobs for about 30% of the labor force in the economy. Of these, more than 20% are enterprises owned by women. Enterprises owned by women have been proactively participating in the dual transformation trend with changes from corporate governance systems, marketing strategies to larger changes such as changes in technology, machinery and even the origin of input materials.
+ What programs and strategies does the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council have to encourage female entrepreneurs to participate in the digitalization and greening trends?
Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen: With the support of domestic and international partners, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council has developed and implemented many programs to support women-led businesses in the Dual Transformation process from 2015 to present. Typical examples include digital skills training programs in cooperation with Meta Group, and programs to enhance digital transformation capacity and protect businesses in cyberspace in cooperation with the Asia Foundation. These programs have contributed to increasing the proactiveness of businesses when transforming their governance models on digital platforms.
Since 2018, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council has coordinated with partners to implement a series of activities on "Female Entrepreneurs Pioneering in Responsible Business" and "Business for a World Without Waste". From the messages of the program, up to now, female entrepreneurs have always been pioneers in the trend of greening lifestyles and greening production and business activities.
The Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council has also cooperated with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to implement the Project on Promoting Competitiveness for Women-Led Enterprises through Green Growth. The project not only provides technical support and information on Green Growth for enterprises but also connects enterprises with banks and financial institutions with credit sources for green transformation-related loan projects.
+ What are some of your messages to the female entrepreneur community in 2025?
Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen: On the occasion of the New Year of the Snake, I would like to wish all female entrepreneurs peace of mind, determination, and confidence in the path they have chosen. The dual transformation era is a challenging period but also opens up many opportunities for businesses. Women, with their resilience and strong creativity, can become leaders leading the dual transformation journey and mastering this era.
+ Thank you!
