Abandoned, grown up with love

On the morning of September 15, 1990, in a small park in the countryside of Baoshi, Sichuan Province (southwestern China), a garbage collector named Li Changjiang heard a cry in the grass. He discovered an abandoned newborn baby in a cardboard box, wrapped only in a few thin pieces of cloth.

Under the baby’s blanket was a piece of paper with the time of birth written on it: 2:15 a.m. that same day. Mr. Ly took the baby home, hoping to find his biological parents. But after many days of waiting without anyone claiming him, he and his wife decided to raise the child, naming him Ly Thien Tu.

Although life was extremely difficult, the couple still wholeheartedly cared for the boy as if he were their own son. Ly Thien Tu grew up in the love and protection of his adoptive parents.

From a young age, he showed intelligence and worked hard to help his parents collect scraps of fabric to earn extra income, but was always at the top of his class.

Later, with his constant efforts, he passed the entrance exam to Tsinghua University - one of the most prestigious universities in China and the world. With a score of 705, Thien Tu made the whole poor countryside proud because he was the first village student to be admitted to university.

After entering university, the male student used the first scholarship he received to buy a pair of leather shoes for his father and a new set of clothes for his adoptive mother.

Unexpected reunion

During his second year of study, Ly Thien Tu suddenly received a call from his adoptive father, informing him that his adoptive mother was seriously ill. When he returned, he learned that the reason for her collapse was a meeting.

A middle-aged couple came to Mr. Ly's house, claiming to be Thien Tu's biological parents. The man named Te Quoc Khanh is a successful businessman with assets of more than 100 million NDT (about 350 billion VND).

He and his wife said that years ago, because their family opposed their love, they were forced to secretly have a child. Right after the baby boy was born, his grandfather secretly took him away.

For many years, they have been searching for their lost child. Now, they want their son back and are willing to pay 10 million yuan (nearly 35 billion VND) in compensation to the adoptive parents.

However, Mr. Ly Truong Giang and his wife did not accept. To them, Ly Thien Tu was their only son and the child they had loved wholeheartedly for over 20 years. The tension between the two sides lasted for a long time and the mental pain caused Thien Tu's adoptive mother to collapse and pass away.

Too heartbroken by this loss, Ly Thien Tu made a decision that surprised everyone: He refused to accept his biological parents back even though he knew they did not intentionally abandon him.

To him, the people who loved, cared for and raised him were his real parents. He firmly asked his biological parents to leave and refused to accept a single penny from them.

Although his biological parents tried to persuade him, they eventually accepted their son's decision and did not force him anymore. To this day, Ly Thien Tu only acknowledges his adoptive father Ly Truong Giang as his father and has never met his biological parents again.

Currently, on Chinese social networking forums, shares and comments continue to express sympathy and admiration for the young man, and emotion at the unconditional love of the adoptive parents for their non-blood-related child.
