Specifically, during the discussions, one option proposed by the German government is to deploy a separate pipeline from Finland, a neighbor of Russia. This route would allow gas to be transported through intact sections of the Nord Stream pipeline to Germany.
A German government spokesman told Handelsblatt that while there had been no formal discussions about resuming Nord Stream, the government “does not want to leave the future of the pipeline up to chance”.

The idea comes as Europe moves away from Russian gas. The region remains dependent on Moscow’s gas, especially liquefied natural gas (LNG).
As the "locomotive" of the European economy, this country is looking for ways to increase energy security after being cut off from cheap gas from Russia and deciding to close a series of domestic nuclear power plants.
High energy costs are weighing on businesses and consumers alike.
According to the German Federal Statistical Office, Germany is currently the country with the highest electricity prices in Europe.
In 2024, households in this country will have to pay nearly 0.4 EUR/1 kWh of electricity, four times higher than in Hungary or Bulgaria.
Electricity prices for businesses are cheaper thanks to government support, but are still significantly higher than international rivals, reducing the competitiveness of Europe's largest economy.
