This is a part of the project to improve the water environment of the city's Tau Hu, Ben Nghe, Doi and Te canal basins (phase 2). The total investment of the entire project is 11,300 billion VND.

According to the Traffic Department, Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant has a service basin area of 2,530 hectares in 8 districts (including districts 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and Binh Chanh district), with a population of about 1.8 million people.

The project is implemented with the goal of completing the rainwater drainage system, solving flooding at flooded areas in the basin; dredging and renovating Tau Hu, Ben Nghe canals, Ngang canals 1, 2, 3 and part of Hang Bang canal.

At the same time, collect and treat domestic wastewater in the basin, increase the capacity of Dong Dien pumping station and Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant from 141,000 m3/day of phase 1 to 469,000 m3/day.

To implement the project, Ho Chi Minh City has reserved an isolated island with a total area of 42 hectares to build Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant phase 1 and phase 2.

According to the Traffic Department, after nearly 20 years of implementation, a swampy, reed-covered island has become a modern wastewater treatment area, with a wastewater treatment capacity of 469,000m3/day and night (the largest in the country to date).

Binh Hung Wastewater Treatment Plant not only has the function of treating wastewater but has been planned and built into a "green destination" with dozens of hectares of trees, laboratories, and monitoring systems to become a place for learning, training, sightseeing, and environmental education for city residents, especially young citizens.

The City Water Environment Improvement Project Phase 2 includes 6 construction packages, with very large scale, construction volume and items.

The project was started in 2015, to date, all packages have completed construction work, and are currently carrying out handover procedures and putting into use.

The dredging project of Ngang Canal No. 1 and Tau Hu Canal will continue to be implemented in 2024.
