This afternoon, the Vietnamese Traditional Rowing Team, including Bui Thi Yen, Tran Thanh Cuong, Pham Hong Quan, Hien Nam, Nguyen Van Cuong, Truong Xuan Nguyen, Tran Tuong Khang, Pham Luong Tu, Nguyen Hong Thai, Nguyen Thi Huong, Diep Thi Huong, Ma Thi Thuong, Ho Thi Ne, and Chau Dai Duong, entered the competition in the mixed 12-boat event for men and women in Kam Pot, Cambodia.

This is the event where the Vietnamese team has to face many strong opponents from Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines. In which, Myanmar has won the gold medal at the largest arena in the continent, the Asian Games. Traditional rowing is also a sport in which countries in the region have invested heavily and have had a tradition of competing and practicing for many years.

Entering the finals, the Vietnamese Traditional Boat Racing team faced strong competition from their opponents. In the first final round, the Vietnamese team took the lead with a time of 2 minutes 12 seconds 668 while the second place team was Myanmar with a time of 2 minutes 14 seconds 462.

Flexible adaptation has helped the Vietnamese Traditional Rowing Team find suitable tactics and techniques to win.

The race became more intense and dramatic in the second final round when the Myanmar team tried to regain their advantage. In this round, Myanmar took the lead with a time of 2 minutes 12 seconds 654 while the Vietnamese team finished with a time of 2 minutes 13 seconds 824.

In total time of both final races, the Vietnamese Traditional Rowing team won the gold medal with 4 minutes 26 seconds 492 seconds while Myanmar won the silver medal with 4 minutes 28 seconds 116 seconds, and the host country Cambodia won the silver medal with 4 minutes 32 seconds 509 seconds.

Previously, in the women's 3-row rowing event, the Vietnamese Traditional Rowing Team also won the gold medal. This is a strong event with a long tradition in Cambodia. However, the Vietnamese rowers excelled in surpassing their opponents with a time of 2 minutes 49 seconds 560. Cambodia won the silver medal with a time of 2 minutes 49 seconds 636. Malaysia won the bronze medal with a time of 4 minutes 26 seconds 028.

According to Ms. Duong Thi Hong Hanh, in charge of Rowing at the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, because this year's SEA Games does not have two of Vietnam's strengths, Canoeing and Rowing, the department, the Vietnam Rowing Federation and the coaching staff have carefully analyzed the rowing techniques and competition rules of this sport to prepare the force.

Because the rowing technique of this sport is quite similar to Canoeing, the only difference is the way of sitting on the boat, so the athletes of the Canoeing team were selected to practice the Traditional Rowing sport. However, we encountered difficulties because we did not have boats to practice for the 3-women event.

This is Cambodia's traditional strength and we do not have a similar boat to practice. After researching, the team's coaching staff found similarities between the C2 boat for Canoeing and the traditional boat. This innovation has helped our athletes have a boat to practice for this event at the 32nd SEA Games.

In preparation for the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese Traditional Rowing Team, consisting of athletes from 3 National Sports Training Centers in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Can Tho, gathered to practice at the Hai Phong Rowing Center. This was also the time for the coaching staff and experts to analyze and evaluate the team to find suitable tactics. This result also shows the flexible adaptation of the Vietnamese Rowing Team at the largest arena in the region.
