Trucks are expected to be banned from passing through 3 gateway roads of Tan Son Nhat by the hour.

Ho Chi Minh City's road infrastructure management unit has proposed a time-based ban on trucks entering Truong Son route and the two branches of Hong Ha and Bach Dang in Tan Son Nhat to reduce congestion.

The plan has just been sent by the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport in response to the situation where the Truong Son, Hong Ha, and Bach Dang routes in front of the airport gate have all exceeded their design capacity.

The vehicle ban is expected to be applied from September 1st from 6am to 8pm. From 2025, the ban will be extended to 10pm. Accordingly, trucks will be banned from Truong Son Street in both directions. The two branches of Bach Dang and Hong Ha are one-way roads, the truck ban will apply from Hong Ha (the route intersecting the two branches) to Truong Son Street.

Currently, the area has several large warehouses serving the airport. When deployed, the Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center said that vehicles can enter and exit warehouse No. 1 (No. 49 Truong Son) from 8:00 p.m. (or 10:00 p.m.) to 6:00 a.m. the following day.

For warehouses 2 (46-48 Hau Giang) and 3 (32 Phan Thuc Duyen), vehicles can follow the route: Hoang Van Thu - Phan Dinh Giot - Phan Thuc Duyen - Thang Long - Hau Giang - warehouse 2, or Pham Van Dong - Pho Quang - Phan Dinh Giot - Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen - warehouse 3 - Thang Long - Hau Giang - warehouse 2.

To synchronize the traffic organization plan in the area, the road infrastructure management unit proposed that the Southern Airport Authority recommend that warehouse and yard owners serving the airport move to other locations such as Thang Long Street. At the same time, it is necessary to soon expand Thang Long and Hau Giang streets to plan specialized routes serving the airport's cargo transportation.

Tan Son Nhat is one of the areas with the most stressful traffic situation in Ho Chi Minh City for many years due to the large number of vehicles passing through every day. Currently, the airport has only one entrance and exit on Truong Son Street, so this area is often overloaded during holidays and Tet. One of the major solutions being implemented in this area is the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project.

The above project has a total capital of more than 4,800 billion VND, expected to be operational in 2024. In addition to directly connecting T3 station (under construction), it will create a new road axis to access the airport, breaking the monopoly of Truong Son road.
