The city's transportation sector has proposed investing 12,300 billion VND to open more roads and interchanges connecting 6 expressways and Ring Roads 3 and 4, thereby improving access to city gateways and increasing investment efficiency.
The content is stated in the official letter recently sent by the Department of Transport to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City after reviewing the current situation and the need for traffic connectivity with expressways and ring roads in the area.
The Ho Chi Minh City regional planning includes 6 expressways and two ring roads (3 and 4), with a total length of approximately 628 km and a scale of 6-10 lanes. Of these, two expressways are already in operation: Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay and Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong. The Ben Luc - Long Thanh and Ring Road 3 are under construction. The remaining projects have not yet received investment.

In line with the plan to expand connections to the aforementioned routes, the Department of Transportation assesses the need to soon implement 8 projects with a capital requirement of 12,300 billion VND. Among these, towards the Mekong Delta, the Tan Tao - Cho Dem and Binh Thuan - Cho Dem branches connecting to the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway are proposed to be expanded to 8 lanes and include interchanges for integrated operation.
Regarding the eastern direction, the city's transportation sector also proposed adding access points and connecting Long Phuoc Road in Thu Duc City via the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay route, in parallel with the plan to expand this expressway. Connecting these routes is considered to boost the economic and social development of the eastern creative urban area of the city.
Regarding the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, the Department of Transport also recommended the early investment in completing the interchanges with local roads, such as National Highway 50, Nguyen Van Tao Road, and Rung Sac Road, to ensure synchronized traffic connectivity and maximize the efficiency of the expressway investment. Specifically, the Ring Road 3, the interchange connecting Phuoc Thien and Go Cong roads, the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port route, the newly opened Northwest road, and the extension of Vo Van Kiet road... were also proposed for implementation.
In addition to the above projects, the Department of Transport has proposed many connecting projects via the Ring Road 4 and upcoming expressways such as Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai, Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh, etc. To expedite the implementation of some urgent projects, the capital needed in 2024 for preparing investment proposal documents is approximately 500 million VND.
