Booking.com’s Vacation Rental Outlook 2024 report, released in March, outlines the key trends and reasons for booking a vacation this summer. The report is based on a survey of more than 11,000 travelers and vacation rental owners from seven Asia-Pacific countries, including Vietnam, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and China.
“In recent years, Vietnamese travelers have increasingly sought alternative accommodation options to traditional hotels. Booking.com’s ‘Holiday Home Outlook Report’ helps readers understand and respond to new demand from the perspective of both accommodation owners and accommodation seekers,” said Varun Grover, Country Manager of Booking.com in Vietnam.
In Vietnam, beach houses are the most popular type of accommodation among Vietnamese tourists (51%), followed by cozy cabins (34%) and farm stays (28%). In addition, in 2023, tourists are likely to seek out unique and novel travel experiences, such as tiny homes (25%), classic country-style houses (21%), tents (20%), log cabins, ski lodges (19%) and floating houses (11%).
The report found that the most important factors for Vietnamese travelers when booking a hotel include: Security measures to protect travelers (49%); No hidden costs or additional service fees (46%); Easy and flexible booking (46%); Guaranteed availability after booking (39%) and Being able to see detailed previous reviews of the location (38%).

According to the survey, more than a quarter (26%) of Vietnamese people said that a house near the beach or with access to the beach is the most important factor that makes a vacation home unique and attractive in Vietnam. The top five factors ranked by Vietnamese travelers are: (1) Near the beach; (2) Located on a hill or mountain; (3) Has a swimming pool and BBQ area; (4) Organic farm; (5) Near a big city.
Booking.com also conducted a survey with accommodation owners. The results showed that, in response to the constantly changing needs of vacationers, accommodation owners have made some appropriate adjustments, thereby helping both sides get closer in identifying key factors when making a booking decision.
Specifically, there are 5 factors that tourists and accommodation owners believe contribute most importantly to increasing the number of bookings and making booking decisions, including: Clean and tidy accommodation; Reasonable/affordable room rates; Security; Location; Beautiful interior and decoration.
