Domestic pepper price updated on January 30, 2025

According to experts, global pepper supply will continue to decline in 2025, while demand from major markets such as the US and Europe remains stable, creating momentum for prices to remain high. Meanwhile, China is currently facing low pepper inventories, and may start buying again after the Lunar New Year, when Vietnam's main harvest begins.

Although expectations of a price reduction have not materialized, pepper prices in Vietnam have remained stable at around VND140,000 - 150,000/kg in recent months. This is a signal that prices have not fluctuated strongly, even though the market is facing a reduction in production from some major producing countries.

In addition, Brazil's pepper output is forecast to recover in 2025, while Indonesia and India may see output decline due to the impact of extreme weather and investment difficulties.

Farmers in Gia Lai province harvest pepper.

According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), in 2024, India's pepper output will reach 125,000 tons and is the country with the highest increase in pepper production of about 7% (8,000 tons) compared to 2023.

As of November 2024, India exported 18,196 tons of pepper, an increase of 30% (4,200 tons) compared to 13,997 tons in the same period in 2023. Of which, the US is the largest export market with a volume of 7,130 tons, a sharp increase of 39.2% over the same period.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association forecasts that global pepper output in 2025 will continue to decrease compared to 2024. This reflects the fact that pepper is no longer the main crop of many farmers. In addition, climate change with extreme weather events has reduced productivity and increased the cost of maintaining pepper production.
