Mr. Pham Phu Thu (1821 - 1882), whose given name was Truc Duong, nicknamed Gia Vien, was born in Dong Ban village, Dien Phuoc district (now Dien Trung commune, Dien Ban town).
Mr. Pham Phu Thu was a “rare” case among Quang Nam scholars in the old imperial examination period when he consecutively passed the “Double-first” exam. In 1842, when he was only 22 years old, he took the Huong exam and passed the Giai Nguyen (First place) exam. The following year, he passed the Hoi exam and passed the top exam. In the Dinh exam, he passed the top exam among the five third-class candidates who passed the same Doctorate exam. That was the Doctorate exam in the year of Quy Mao (1843), during the reign of King Thieu Tri.
The famous mandarin Pham Phu Thu was a great intellectual, leaving his mark in many fields of politics, economics, culture - society, foreign affairs... when he was an official under the Nguyen Dynasty. He was a man of integrity and integrity, in this aspect, he can be considered a typical representative of the character of a person from Quang.

Throughout his official career, aware of the country's declining situation, Pham Phu Thu made many moves that clearly demonstrated his innovative and reformist thinking.
His contributions not only have historical value but are also a great source of inspiration for future generations in building and developing their homeland and country.
In 2024, Pham Phu Thu's tomb was ranked as a national monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Speaking at the ceremony, the representative of the People's Committee of Dien Ban town pledged to continue to closely coordinate with all levels, sectors, and local people to preserve, restore and promote the value of this monument so that it becomes a meaningful cultural and historical educational destination for future generations.
On this occasion, the local government and family representatives also held the inauguration ceremony of Pham Phu Thu Memorial House. This place will be both a place of worship and a display of images and documents about the life, career and illustrious works of Truc Duong Pham Phu Thu.
When put into operation, Pham Phu Thu Memorial House will be exploited scientifically and effectively to become, together with the national relic of Pham Phu Thu's tomb and other relics in the area, a source-based tourist attraction, an attractive cultural and tourist destination of the locality.
