The Central Highlands provinces have a favorable geographical location, large land area, mild climate and biodiversity, and are becoming an attractive place for high-tech agricultural investment, especially in the livestock industry.

This morning, October 30, the Conference on Investment Promotion in Agriculture and Rural Development in the Central Highlands took place in Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province, chaired by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan and leaders of the Central Highlands provinces.

The conference was attended by experts and domestic and foreign enterprises. This event demonstrates the strong commitment of the Government and stakeholders in the sustainable development of the agricultural economy in the Central Highlands region.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan affirmed that the Central Highlands region has great potential for agricultural development thanks to fertile land, favorable climate, and outstanding products such as coffee, pepper, rubber and tropical fruit trees. Therefore, to optimize development efficiency, there needs to be synchronous investment in technology, infrastructure and human resource training.

This conference will be a professional forum for businesses and investors to share experiences and build sustainable connections to promote modern development of Central Highlands agriculture.

At the conference, delegates presented the potentials, strengths, and orientations for agricultural development, shared successful experiences, and discussed support policies from the Government.

As a business investing in many high-tech livestock projects in the Central Highlands, Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Head of the Agriculture and Food Subcommittee Connection Working Group (European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam - EuroCham), Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hung Nhon Group said that the Central Highlands provinces have large land areas, temperate climate and biodiversity, and are becoming attractive places for investment in high-tech agriculture and especially the livestock industry.

However, according to Mr. Hung, the above resources in the Central Highlands have not been fully exploited due to the lack of investment resources, infrastructure and technology. In particular, for the high-tech livestock sector, it is not only about investing in facilities but also about building a sustainable value chain, linking from input supply to output consumption markets.

Mr. Hung said that recently, the joint venture between Hung Nhon Group and De Heus (Netherlands) has implemented many large-scale high-tech agricultural projects in the Central Highlands and has achieved remarkable achievements.

"In Lam Dong, we have 3 chicken farming projects with a total area of 30 hectares, a total investment of nearly 350 billion VND, and are currently developing stably. In Dak Lak, the DHN High-Tech Agricultural Complex project with an area of 200 hectares, a total investment of 66 million USD (about 1,500 billion VND) has also officially come into operation since 2021. Particularly in Gia Lai, the DHN project with a total investment of nearly 1,000 billion VND has reached 60% of the construction progress and will put phase 1 into operation in December this year" - Mr. Hung informed.

The series of projects invested by the two corporations in the Central Highlands not only aim to create high-quality livestock products but also lay the foundation for an agricultural model that combines natural resource conservation, aiming to build a comprehensive agricultural ecosystem for the Central Highlands.

However, Mr. Hung said that in order for these projects to develop smoothly and sustainably, support from local authorities as well as appropriate investment attraction policies are needed.

"Through practical implementation, we have found that there are still many challenges and obstacles in attracting investors in the field of high-tech livestock farming. Specifically, localities need to have clear and consistent planning for raw material areas and livestock farming areas. Planning needs to closely follow the potential and have synchronization between localities, helping investors see the direction of long-term development, while ensuring the reasonable use of resources" - Mr. Hung expressed his opinion.

Mr. Hung revealed: "One of our important plans is to invest in a project to research and develop a standard raw material area for animal feed production, in parallel with building cooperative models in the Central Highlands. This not only helps proactively supply raw corn for animal feed production, but is also a long-term strategy to enhance food security and reduce dependence on imported raw materials in the context of increasing domestic and international demand for corn."

Delegates discussed cooperation opportunities and investment potential in agriculture in the Central Highlands.

The representative of the De Heus - Hung Nhon chain also pointed out the reality that each year Vietnam spends about 10 billion USD to import raw materials for animal feed, of which the most is corn, because domestic raw materials cannot meet the demand for animal feed processing. The dependence on imported raw materials partly affects the competitiveness of agricultural products in domestic and foreign markets.

Accompanying farmers, De Heus is working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to address this situation through a project to develop corn growing areas in the Central Highlands. The project aims to apply new varieties and science and technology to help farmers improve corn productivity, reduce production costs, and meet quality standards to compete with imported corn, ensuring livelihoods and increasing income.

Mr. Vu Manh Hung emphasized that Gia Lai province has a large area of agricultural land and favorable climate, which is an ideal location for crops to serve the above needs.

"In the coming time, we will cooperate with the Dutch Cooperative Development Organization (Agriterra) to build a corn material area for animal feed production, on the basis of developing existing cooperatives in the three provinces of Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Kon Tum. The combination of these projects will maximize the strengths and contribute to the socio-economic development of Gia Lai province in particular and the Central Highlands in general" - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hung Nhon Group affirmed.

With the participation of international enterprises, the Central Highlands not only receives capital but also accesses advanced technology and management experience. Creating close links between these partners will help improve production capacity, build closed supply chains, from breeding, feed, livestock to processing and consumption of products. This is also an opportunity for enterprises to improve production processes and raise quality standards, meeting the increasingly high demands of the market.

Mr. Vu Manh Hung also emphasized the importance of human resources. "To develop high-tech agriculture, not only capital and technology are needed, but also skilled workers with technical knowledge. Therefore, I propose that there should be specialized training programs in the field of high-tech agriculture; cooperate with businesses, build training programs, transfer technology, and help workers improve their skills."

In addition, regarding the consumption market, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hung Nhon Group said that promoting market connections is an optimal solution to ensure product output. Local authorities need to support businesses in connecting with potential markets, especially international markets. Next, it is also necessary to promote the image and build brands for Central Highlands agricultural products to enhance value, thereby increasing competitiveness in the international market.

"I believe that if we join hands with support from local authorities and investment from businesses, the Central Highlands will develop strongly, becoming an advanced high-tech agricultural center, providing high-quality agricultural products for the domestic market and export," said Mr. Hung.

In response to the proposals of Hung Nhon Group representatives and delegates, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan emphasized the potential of the vast Central Highlands. With innovative thinking and expanded investment from leading enterprises, the Central Highlands can transform itself from a place that focuses on growing short-term industrial crops such as rubber and coffee to attracting more businesses in the livestock sector.

Minister Le Minh Hoan recommended that local authorities and businesses need to have a more open mindset, not limited to Central Highlands agriculture. At the same time, he also suggested building "buffer zones" for animal feed and aquatic feed production in areas where livestock enterprises invest with cooperatives, to minimize risks from fluctuations in the market of input materials such as corn and soybeans, which are mainly imported.

"There needs to be coordination between local authorities and businesses to resolve policy problems, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is committed to providing support within its authority," added Mr. Le Minh Hoan.
