In late October, Hai Phong City accelerated progress, expecting to start construction of Nguyen Trai Bridge at the end of 2023. Site clearance and resettlement compensation are being urgently completed; the relocation of Hoang Dieu Port will soon be carried out to serve the Nguyen Trai Bridge construction project.
Hai Phong City plans to relocate Hoang Dieu port to build Nguyen Trai bridge and make a park on the banks of Cam river.
It is known that, up to now, the People's Committee of May To Ward has completed the measurement and counting of 20/21 organizations and 131/131 households and individuals; established and publicized the compensation and support plan for 19/21 organizations and 131/131 households. Up to now, 2 households have had their compensation and resettlement support plans approved and have proceeded with the handover of the site; 4 other households have also agreed.
According to the People's Committee of Hai Phong City, the Nguyen Trai Bridge project and urban beautification of the surrounding area were approved by the City People's Committee in a decision dated December 30, 2022, with a total investment of more than 6,300 billion VND.
The project is divided into two component projects: construction of Nguyen Trai bridge with a capital of more than 4,416 billion VND and recovery of about 52 hectares of land, compensation and support for site clearance with a capital of more than 1,915 billion VND.
French-style buildings located in the headquarters of the City People's Committee and People's Council will be retained for preservation.
Speaking with Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Mr. Le Anh Quan, Standing Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, said that in addition to some special architectural works with historical value that are retained, all other construction works from the foot of Hoang Van Thu bridge to the foot of the new Nguyen Trai bridge will be demolished by the city, then renovated into a park.
Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong, added that the works that Hai Phong is considering retaining and preserving include: buildings belonging to the headquarters of the People's Committee and People's Council of the city that are over 100 years old; the city's convention center and a corner of Hoang Dieu port.
Nguyen Trai Bridge is 1,451 m long, spanning the Cam River in Hai Phong City, connecting Ngo Quyen District with Thuy Nguyen District. Nguyen Trai Bridge is an important item in the project to invest in building technical infrastructure for the new urban area North of Cam River, along with Hoang Van Thu Bridge. According to the design, this is a cable-stayed bridge, diamond-shaped towers, the main bridge width is 26.5 m, including 4 motor lanes, 2 mixed lanes and 2 branches down to Le Thanh Tong Street; speed 80 km/h; design load HL93.
Hoang Dieu Port was built by the French in 1874, located in the inner city of today. This is the main port of Hai Phong and at the same time the most important and largest port in the northern seaport system until the end of the 20th century. After more than 100 years of operation, Hoang Dieu Port has completed its historical mission.
