Since the beginning of 2024, there have been a series of complex and sophisticated cyber attacks with data leaks and data encryption incidents, causing great damage to organizations and people.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Chinh, Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Ministry of Public Security), Permanent Vice President of the National Cyber Security Association, said that data security continues to exist, challenging protection work (Photo: Trung Nam).
On the afternoon of July 16 in Hanoi, the National Cyber Security Association organized a Workshop on Data Security in Cyberspace with the participation of many organizations, businesses and cyber security experts to discuss and learn about opportunities and challenges related to national cyber security.

According to the proposal, the Association will take the lead in building the platform, connecting and receiving data shared from the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the State Bank; as well as connecting with Vietnamese cybersecurity companies, international cybersecurity organizations and independent cybersecurity experts. The platform can share the latest attack signs collected through investigated cases, such as malware identification information, control server address (C&C), network characteristics or server memory if attacked... In particular, the platform will give early warnings to organizations when detecting data leaks. Data that is warned of leaks includes internal data, customer information, software source code, accounts, passwords... According to a synthesis by Vietnam Cyber Security Joint Stock Company (VSEC), in just half a year, more than 17,000 security vulnerabilities were discovered. In addition, the general increase in known exploited vulnerabilities over the past decade provides a worrying context. In addition, the number of attacks worldwide has increased 1.3 times compared to the same period in 2023. In particular, the rate of ransomware-related attacks has increased by 50% compared to 2023 (according to Trend Micro), in which Vietnam is one of the 10 countries with the most ransomware attacks in the world (Sangfor).
