On September 9, Phong Chau bridge collapsed, sweeping away pillar T7 and 2 main spans (spans 6 and 7 on the right bank of Thao river, in Tam Nong district).
According to the report of the Department of Transport of Phu Tho province, Phong Chau bridge has undergone many repairs and maintenance. The bridge does not have to be posted with a sign restricting the load of vehicles passing through the bridge.
Mr. Bui Quang Thai - Director of Vietnam Road Administration - said that every year, Phong Chau bridge and National Highway 32C are planned for maintenance, allocated capital for maintenance and the Department of Transport of Phu Tho province (investor) organizes the selection of contractors to perform maintenance according to the assigned plan.
Currently, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province has proposed that the Ministry of National Defense and Military Region 2 consider installing a pontoon bridge to replace Phong Chau bridge to ensure temporary traffic and serve people's travel.
