Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, National Assembly delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga - Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hai Duong province
Reporter: With the approval of the Politburo and the support of the member parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Vietnamese National Assembly will host for the first time the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians from September 14-18, 2023 in Hanoi with the theme "The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through Digital Transformation and Innovation". How do you assess the significance of this event for our country in the current context?
Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, National Assembly delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga - Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hai Duong province: I consider this event to be of profound importance to diplomacy and to the elevation of multilateral diplomacy in particular, to the building of a modern comprehensive diplomacy in general, contributing positively to the sustainable development of the country in the present and upcoming periods.
First of all, regarding the importance of foreign affairs, since ancient times, our ancestors have attached great importance to diplomatic relations with neighboring countries and have made efforts to expand diplomatic relations with other countries in the world. This expansion of foreign relations, on the one hand, enhances knowledge and mutual understanding between Vietnam and other countries, and on the other hand, enhances the ability of international cooperation to promote and develop the domestic economy.
Currently, we are living in a flat world with great openness, so foreign affairs are even more important with many new key tasks. The three pillars of comprehensive diplomacy have been identified by our Party: Party diplomacy, state diplomacy, and people's diplomacy. Of these three pillars, the National Assembly's foreign affairs, which are part of the state diplomacy pillar, play a particularly important role.
Therefore, Vietnam hosting the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference in Hanoi for the first time will be a good opportunity to promote the development of the National Assembly's foreign affairs. In the context of Vietnam's increasing role and position in the international arena, this Conference will be a meaningful connection channel between Vietnam and the world, between young Vietnamese parliamentarians and young parliamentarians around the world; an extremely important forum for young Vietnamese parliamentarians to join their voices with young parliamentarians around the world in the process of promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals through digital transformation and innovation.
Reporter: The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians chose the theme “The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through Digital Transformation and Innovation”. What is your assessment of this theme?
Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, National Assembly delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga - Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hai Duong province: We are living in the digital age. The 4.0 technology revolution has caused rapid changes in the world. In this digital age, any hesitation or delay in applying digital transformation is a missed golden opportunity for development.
Therefore, in my opinion, the theme of the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference was chosen very correctly and very appropriately in the current context not only of Vietnam but of the whole world.
With digital transformation and innovation, the role of young people is extremely important. They are always sensitive and pioneers of new, modern and positive things. They are also the core workforce of countries. Young parliamentarians are both pioneers of all innovations and have a role in the legislative process of the National Assembly.
I believe that from this forum, young parliamentarians will contribute their views, assessments and initiatives in promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals through digital transformation and innovation.
Reporter: Thank you very much!
