Cherry is an imported fruit that has appeared in the Vietnamese market for many years with increasingly affordable prices. This Tet At Ty, imported cherries from Chile, Australia, New Zealand... continue to flood the Vietnamese market. Some businesses even import 100 tons of cherries just to serve the shopping needs of people during the Lunar New Year.

“The price of Australian and Chilean cherries is increasing every day. Hansen cherries, size 38, are temporarily out of stock,” Ms. Bui Ngoc Lan, owner of a fruit shop in Thanh Xuan (Hanoi), recently sent a message to her loyal customers.

According to her, last year, the economy was difficult, so many families cut back on Tet spending. However, cherries are one of the imported fruits that people prioritize buying as gifts, so the goods are consumed very well. In particular, the higher the quality of cherries, the more popular they are during this time.

For example, Australian Hansen cherries are the highest quality on the market today. She imports all sizes from 34-38 with prices ranging from 2.5-4 million VND/2kg box (equivalent to 1.25-2 million VND/kg). This line is regularly imported 300 boxes per day but is still constantly "out of stock", she said. Meanwhile, cherries from 1J to 3J cost from 600,000-850,000 VND/2.5kg box and are always available in stock.

Not only high-end Hansen cherries, the store also imports other cherry varieties daily. Notably, from mid-December of the lunar calendar until now, the price of this fruit has changed every day, increasing rapidly.

“Over the past week, the average price of each box of cherries has increased by 50,000-100,000 VND, and the super VIP type has increased by 400,000 VND/box,” she said. Therefore, the store only accepts same-day delivery orders and does not hold goods for customers until the next day.

After texting “out of stock” to dozens of customers asking to buy Australian cherries size 36-38 (fruit as big as a quail egg), Ms. Trieu Thi Thu Hoai - owner of a high-end imported fruit store in Hoang Mai (Hanoi) - had to announce on the store's Facebook page: "Out of stock of super VIP Australian cherries".

She said that on the morning of January 22, the store still had more than 100 boxes of this VIP type to sell. However, immediately after that, 3 customers placed large orders as Tet gifts even though the price was up to 3.5-4 million VND/box. After closing these 3 orders, many customers asked but she had no goods to sell because there were only a few boxes left in the warehouse.

“Tomorrow the store will receive 800 more boxes of 3J cherries from Chile. This type is only priced at 850,000 VND/2.5kg box, so customers are competing to buy it,” she boasted.

At the Tet market, the cheapest imported cherry is priced at 220,000 VND/kg, while the most expensive one is priced at 2 million VND/kg. This is quite a high price compared to other imported fruits sold in the Vietnamese market today.

However, some chain stores can sell up to thousands of boxes of cherries of various types, weighing 2-2.5kg/box every day. As for the high-end Australian cherry line, many fruit stores have reported "sold out".
