(PLVN) - After the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, many localities exceeded the tourism revenue mark of more than 1,000 billion VND, some localities even achieved revenue many times higher than the previous year. This is a "lever" for the Vietnamese tourism industry to prepare for a year with many new steps forward.
The "trillion" stepping stones
Spring is the “golden” season for tourism in Vietnam. Firstly, this is the last period of the international tourist season, and it coincides with the long traditional Tet holiday in our country. Therefore, a large number of domestic and foreign tourists register for tours, accommodation, and long-term vacations.
In particular, the climate in the three regions of Vietnam, in the early days of the year, is relatively mild and pleasant, suitable for tourists to visit all locations. For example, in the South, beaches such as Vung Tau, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc are warm and dry, past the stormy season, tourists can easily participate in swimming, diving, and entertainment activities. In the North, tourist destinations such as Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Sa Pa, ... are in full bloom with flowers, many festivals imbued with national identity, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
Thanks to “favorable weather, favorable terrain, and favorable people”, spring tourism has helped provinces and localities exploit many strong products, attracting tourists to visit. For example, spiritual tourism in Bac Giang province is at its busiest time of the year. Ninh Binh province is a destination chosen by many visitors to “make a pilgrimage” to worship Buddha and enjoy the scenery at the beginning of the year.
Therefore, after the Lunar New Year holiday ended, the report showed very positive figures. According to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and each locality, announced on the afternoon of February 2 (the 5th day of Tet), during the recent Tet holiday, tourism nationwide is estimated to have welcomed 12.5 million domestic visitors, an increase of about 19% over the same period last year. Foreign visitors also increased by an average of about 30% thanks to the effect of visa policies, restructuring of the tourist market and the efforts of businesses and localities.
Some localities with outstanding revenue such as Kien Giang achieved revenue of 1,886 billion VND, increasing the growth rate by nearly 50% over the same period. Phu Quoc during Tet has a large number of international visitors with high spending and accommodation. Near Tet, the island welcomes an average of 38 - 40 international flights arriving and departing. In Khanh Hoa, the number of visitors and vacationers from January 27 to February 1 (28th of Tet to the end of the 4th of Tet) is 940,500, helping the average room occupancy rate to be 82%, mainly concentrated in the city center, peaking from the 2nd to the 5th of Tet. 5-star resorts in the Northern Cam Ranh Peninsula tourist area have an occupancy rate of over 90%. Total revenue is 1,356 billion VND, an increase of 41% compared to 2024.
To keep tourist destinations "hot" throughout the four seasons
It is easy to see that foreign tourist destinations are a big competitor, attracting many Vietnamese tourists. According to the National Tourism Administration, this spring, there are still many factors affecting tourism revenue such as transportation costs - airfares increased by 10 - 15% compared to 2024. The trend of choosing international tours to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea instead of domestic destinations of Vietnamese tourists continues to increase.
Spring tourism will last around mid-March and gradually cool down. Therefore, starting from the leverage of the "bumper" tourism at the beginning of the year, provinces and localities need to plan early to attract tourists in the low tourist season and compete with the international market in the upcoming summer tourist peak.
To do that, it is necessary to promote the inherent strengths of the province and locality. At the same time, many new tourism products are designed, based on the foundation of sustainable development. In particular, it is necessary to upgrade infrastructure, facilitate traffic routes. In addition to air routes, tourists can travel by sea, train, road, ... From there, encourage visitors to visit all four seasons.
