The local authorities conducted a preliminary inspection and determined that this was not an explosive that needed to be recovered, but a cannon, so they handed it over to the Hai Phong City Museum for management.
Museum Director - Ms. Bui Thi Nguyet Nga said that through preliminary appraisal, the museum determined that this is a cannon from the reign of King Tu Duc, 19th century and related to the construction and protection of Ninh Hai wharf.
According to research documents, during the Nguyen Dynasty, large cannons were immediately given the title of general or medium, large, or upper general after being cast; with the name cast on the gun body. "Specific information about the newly found gun will be researched and clarified by the museum," said Ms. Nga.
