Ensuring occupational safety and hygiene is an important basis for enterprises, production and business establishments to improve the quality of the working environment, protect the health and assets of enterprises and employees, and contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the locality. Recognizing the importance of ensuring occupational safety and hygiene in production and business, enterprises in the province have paid attention to implementing legal regulations on occupational safety and hygiene with many practical and effective activities.

Improve working conditions

The province currently has nearly 6,850 operating enterprises, creating jobs for over 184,500 workers. Of which, there are 172 FDI enterprises with over 80,200 workers, 15 state-owned enterprises with over 6,600 workers, 6,662 non-state enterprises with over 97,800 workers. In recent years, enterprises have made positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the province, which is reflected in the fact that Phu Tho continues to be in the Top 10 provinces and cities with the leading export turnover in the country in 2023 with 10.6 billion USD.

As a large-scale fertilizer and chemical manufacturing enterprise, Lam Thao Super Phosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company always focuses on promoting production and business development, fulfilling its responsibilities to the State budget while ensuring occupational safety and hygiene. Mr. Trieu Dang Dinh - Deputy Head of Technical Department, Lam Thao Super Phosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company said: The Company always strictly complies with regulations on occupational safety and hygiene, at the same time, invests in modern machinery and equipment, improves production technology; periodically inspects and maintains equipment; improves working conditions for workers through mechanization in loading and unloading goods... In addition, the Company established a Labor Safety and Hygiene Council; maintains propaganda work in many forms; Coordinate training on electrical safety, chemicals, occupational safety and hygiene, and fire prevention and fighting for workers to be ready to handle incidents when they occur.

COSMOS 1 Technology Co., Ltd. (Thuy Van Industrial Park, Viet Tri City) operates in the field of precision mechanical processing, regularly using many heavy industrial machines and equipment, which poses a potential risk of occupational accidents. Therefore, the Company has focused on upgrading and renovating the factory system; arranging reasonable production lines and equipment; performing well the inspection of machinery and production lines, promptly overcoming the risk factors that cause unsafety for workers at the workplace. Mr. Ta Nam Giang - Safety Officer of the Company said: The Company has arranged a spacious and clean working space for staff and employees; ensuring noise and light. Staff and employees are provided with modern working equipment, regular health check-ups; at the same time, fully equipped with means and equipment for labor protection, labor hygiene, participating in training on labor safety, fire prevention and fighting, and industrial first aid.

According to the assessment of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the work of ensuring occupational safety and hygiene has been of interest to enterprises in the province, promoting training and practice activities to raise awareness of occupational safety and hygiene for workers; implementing measures to improve working conditions; organizing health and occupational disease examinations for workers. In particular, enterprises have strengthened self-inspection and monitoring to promptly detect safety risks in order to develop prevention plans at the production site; regularly reminding and advising workers to strictly comply with regulations and safe production processes, especially the use of machines and equipment with strict requirements on occupational safety and hygiene...

Strictly implement regulations on labor safety

Along with actively coordinating with agencies and localities to organize Workers' Month and respond to the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has strengthened guidance for enterprises and production and business establishments to ensure occupational safety and hygiene in the province. In 2023, the Department confirmed the declaration of using machinery and equipment with strict requirements on occupational safety for 30 enterprises; organized inspections and supervision of occupational safety and hygiene implementation at 10 enterprises in the province.

With a large workforce, the whole province has tens of thousands of workers working in conditions classified as arduous, toxic, dangerous, and potentially unsafe for work. According to the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2023, 88 cases occurred in the province, causing 88 people to suffer from work-related accidents at different levels, including 11 deaths and 24 serious injuries. Not only causing damage to the lives and health of workers, work-related accidents have led to nearly 900 days of work stoppage, causing damage of over 440 billion VND. The causes of work-related accidents are violations of regulations, procedures, standards and safe working measures.

Ms. Nguyen Hien Ngoc - Head of the Department of Employment and Labor Safety (Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs) said: The Department will continue to coordinate with relevant departments, branches and units to implement many measures to ensure labor safety and hygiene. Specifically, the Department will continue to strengthen the inspection and examination of the implementation of legal regulations on labor safety and hygiene at enterprises. At the same time, promote propaganda, inspection and guidance on legal regulations on labor safety and hygiene, labor protection policies and regimes; deploy labor safety training to production and business establishments; improve knowledge and skills to ensure health and safety for workers, handle situations during the production process...

Occupational safety at the workplace plays an important role in protecting workers, a decisive factor in productivity, quality and efficiency of production and business of enterprises. On the other hand, well-implemented occupational safety is one of the leading factors for enterprises to attract workers, create competitive advantages and build a good image of the business community, creating favorable conditions for the province to attract investment, develop industry according to the set orientation, contributing to the overall development of the province. Therefore, the implementation of measures to ensure occupational safety and hygiene must become a regular and continuous task.
