Long Thanh airport construction site speeds up at the end of the year

(Dan Tri) - The steel frame roof structure of the passenger terminal, runway, and connecting road to Long Thanh airport is being mobilized by contractors to maximize human and material resources for installation and speed up progress.
In early December, at the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal construction site, more than 6,000 engineers, supervisors, and workers are urgently working on items and component projects to speed up progress. After more than 15 months of construction, in the passenger terminal construction and equipment installation package, the Vietur joint venture has completed all reinforced concrete columns, floor beams of floors and roof columns. Currently, the contractor continues to construct the telescopic bridge and process the corridor stairs, and install the steel roof structure according to schedule. The main steel roof structure alone has been processed, fabricated and painted to completion, with over 17,000 tons of installation work. At the construction site, thousands of engineers, workers and modern machinery continue to install the steel frames. According to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the construction of the terminal's steel roof structure is worth about 3.5 trillion VND, accounting for about 10% of the contract value of the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal project phase 1. The steel frame of the passenger terminal roof of Long Thanh airport weighs about 32,000 tons. The work of moving the steel frame from the ground to the roof of the terminal was carried out carefully and meticulously to ensure the safety of workers and the technical quality of the construction. The steel roof assembly operation is carried out by the joint contractor following strict labor safety standards with the support of modern machinery and equipment. All workers working at height are fully equipped with protective equipment and safety supervision at a high level. A steel structure is moved by crane to the roof of Long Thanh airport passenger terminal for installation. The joint venture contractor started construction of the steel structure of the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal in August. It is expected that the steel roof structure of the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal will be completed by mid-2025. In parallel with the construction progress of the rough part, all the procurement and ordering of ME equipment, station equipment, HBS system, and facade glass walls have been implemented, signed contracts with suppliers and manufacturers, and are in the process of manufacturing and processing components according to the set schedule. According to ACV, the Long Thanh airport project phase 1 consists of 4 component projects. To date, component projects 1, 2 and 3 have achieved and exceeded the schedule, but component project 4 is still behind schedule. Specifically, component project 3 currently has more than 6,000 personnel and 2,700 pieces of equipment working day and night at the construction site. The bid packages are assessed to ensure quality and progress. As for component project 4 (ground service works), which includes 17 items, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has completed and issued bidding documents, expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026. This is a project behind schedule. The passenger terminal project is expected to be basically completed before December 2025 and will continue to complete and install equipment for trial operation from early 2026, completing the entire project to be able to put into operation in the third quarter of 2026. Package 4.6 (runway, taxiway, and aircraft parking) started construction with the passenger terminal package, with a contract value of more than VND 7,200 billion, expected to be completed and put into technical operation before April 30, 2025, 3 months ahead of schedule. Package 6.12 (traffic system connecting T1 and T2) started construction in July 2023, with a contract value of more than VND 2,600 billion. At a recent working session at the Long Thanh airport construction site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested all units to urgently speed up the progress of component projects, ensuring that Long Thanh international airport is basically completed by December 31, 2025.
Long Thanh International Airport (Dong Nai Province) is a national key project with a capital scale of about 5 billion USD (about 110 trillion VND). This will be the largest airport in Vietnam in the future with an area of 5,364 hectares and a capacity of serving up to 100 million passengers/year. The project is divided into 3 construction phases: Phase 1 (2021-2025); Phase 2 (2025-2030); Phase 3 (2035-2040).
