After being relegated from the Japanese national championship, Yokohama FC proceeded to liquidate many redundant players to reduce the operating budget. However, in the end, they kept Cong Phuong, who did not make a significant contribution last season.
During the past season, the Nghe An striker did not play a single minute for Yokohama FC in the Japanese national championship. He only appeared for two minutes in the match against Nagoya Grampus in the Japanese League Cup.
