Vietnam Environment Joint Stock Company is leveling the ground at Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex (Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District) to prepare for the groundbreaking of the Solid Waste (Garbage) Power Generation Plant project in Khanh Son. The plant's waste-to-power generation technology is to use a mechanical grate furnace from Martin Group (Germany).

The Khanh Son Solid Waste Incineration Power Plant Project was approved by the City People's Committee for local adjustment of the detailed planning (scale 1/500) in October 2024 with a total planned land area of 9,387 hectares, and a waste treatment capacity of 650 tons/day (including domestic solid waste, agricultural and forestry waste and common industrial waste). Accordingly, the main plant is located in the southwest area; the secondary raw water treatment plant and landfill (fly ash) are in the northeast. The leachate treatment area, the integrated pump room, the bottom slag treatment plant and the production of ash-based products, and other items according to the plant operation diagram are located in the center...

According to the project's environmental impact assessment report, the project's technology is waste incineration combined with electricity generation using a mechanical grate furnace of Martin Group, the Martin SITY 2000 furnace model with advanced waste incineration technology has been researched and improved to be able to burn waste with complex components, high humidity, low calorific value and convenient in maintenance and equipment replacement.

Along with that, there are many modern auxiliary equipment, originating from the world's leading suppliers such as Siemens, ABB, Kasby..., ensuring environmental standards for exhaust gas, wastewater and waste. Heat generated from the combustion process is conducted through a heat exchange system and boiler to recover heat energy, the generated steam is used to run a 3-phase AC turbine with a capacity of 18MW...

The first waste-to-energy plant in Da Nang was assessed by the scientific and technological advisory council chaired by the Department of Science and Technology and issued a document concluding that the solid waste incineration technology using a mechanical grate furnace of Martin Group is suitable for the treatment of domestic waste in Da Nang city.

Accordingly, the Martin SITY 2000 mechanical grate technology can burn unsorted solid waste to generate electricity. The grate consists of stacked, static grate pieces that move relatively to mix the waste evenly, creating favorable conditions for burning and incinerating the waste. The quality of the exhaust gas after treatment is guaranteed according to the regulations of Vietnam and Europe. Leachate and domestic wastewater are collected and treated to meet Vietnam's A standard.

The Department of Science and Technology believes that the technology of treating domestic solid waste by incineration with heat utilization to generate electricity using a mechanical grate incinerator of Martin Group is a traditional technology that has been effectively applied for many years and is currently basically suitable for incineration of domestic solid waste that has not been completely classified in Da Nang city. This technology is currently applying information technology and automatic control technology, so it is advanced and modern...

The Department of Science and Technology also noted that Vietnam Environment Joint Stock Company must ensure the origin, technical parameters, and condition of the equipment and machinery invested and installed; imported equipment must be synchronized, ensuring connections throughout the entire production line; equipment quality must meet current standards and regulations. Production operations must comply with safety regulations, and technical parameters must be well controlled during the treatment of solid waste and secondary waste...

According to Vietnam Environment Joint Stock Company, the Solid Waste Incineration Power Plant project in Khanh Son has a total investment of VND 2,021 billion from the investor's own capital and loans with a power generation capacity of 18MW. The project broke ground in the first quarter of 2025 and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
