Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City Police discovered a criminal ring smuggling goods such as iPhones, tablets, laptops, etc. from abroad to Vietnam, led by Dat. Investigation work has clarified that they transported goods from Cambodia to Vietnam by road, selling them at some of Dat's stores and in many other provinces and cities.

On October 26, police ambushed and arrested Giang while he was transporting styrofoam boxes containing iPhones to hide at a warehouse on Hung Phu Street, Ward 8, District 8.

Searching this warehouse, the police seized evidence including: nearly 4,000 iPhones of various types, 3 tablets, 1 laptop, 20 AirTag positioning devices...

The total value of the goods is estimated at about 30 billion VND. All of them do not have valid invoices or documents proving their origin.

Based on Giang's statement, the police focused on investigating and arresting Dat. The police searched 4 locations where the subjects delivered the goods and seized many exhibits.

Through investigation, it was determined that since December 2021, Dat had been in contact with a subject nicknamed A Mui (unknown origin, in Cambodia). According to the agreement, A Mui organized people to transport goods from Cambodia to Vietnam for Dat.

Dat assigned Giang and several others to receive the goods, bring them back to hide in a warehouse in District 8, then sell them at stores owned by Dat or wholesale to stores in many places.

When discovering this smuggling ring, the police force clarified that the payment method between Dat and A Mui was quite new. Specifically, Dat used the trick of converting VND into USDT cryptocurrency to pay for goods for A Mui through virtual currency applications.

The police also determined that from December 2021 to present, the smuggling ring led by Dat has successfully transported to Vietnam over 22,000 iPhones, laptops, tablets of all kinds... estimated at about 300 billion VND.

Ho Chi Minh City Police Department is expanding the investigation and prosecution to handle related subjects.
